Home Instead Caregiver

A tradition of great caregiving means that we take care of our own as well as we take care you and your family.

Home Instead recognizes outstanding CAREGivers who demonstrate the Attributes of Love (v)This program inspires CAREGivers to strive for excellence, and it rewards CAREGivers for their hard work, compassionate care and dedicated service to others.

On an annual basis, we select a CAREGiver of the Year and celebrate him/her at a special reception at our office. Our CAREGiver of the Year is also presented to our corporate headquarters in Omaha, Neb., as a nominee for the national award — The Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award.

Green Bay CAREGiver of the Month
2020

September 2020 | Shirley

For the past seven years, Shirley has served Home Instead Green Bay with such positivity. Clients continually acknowledge that she does extra "little things" that make their days brighter. She also makes certain to treat each client with dignity and to make sure each one is happy with the care she provides. It's no wonder that she is adored by every client she serves. Already managing a full schedule, Shirley is also willing to take on additional responsibilities in times of need.

Outside of caregiving, Shirley enjoys gardening, reading, traveling and working in the yard.

August 2020 | Lynn

Despite a full schedule, Lynn remains calm, upbeat, positive and organized. Even in difficult situations, her personality helps put clients and their families at ease. As a team member said, she has a “God-given gift” of being able to work with others. Often without hesitation, she’s eager to jump in and offer help; in fact, when Campbell’s discontinued its pea soup — a client’s favorite — Lynn was seen trying to make it from scratch, despite never having made pea soup.

Outside of caregiving, Lynn likes to sew, read and sing.

July 2020 | Chan

Chan is innately a caregiver, having cared for her parents and now supporting our clients in their homes. She applies a selfless determina-tion to help others. And she makes a big impact when she does; in fact, her clients repeatedly ask for her to return to their homes as often as she can. Another big reason is her personality and how it helps put clients and their families at ease. One of her clients stated, “I want Chan to help as much as possible because I enjoy and trust her.”

In addition to her passion for caregiving, Chan enjoys biking, hiking, walking, playing tennis, spending time with family, watching movies and listening to music.

June 2020 | Lori

Prior to being a CAREGiver, Lori applied her great “people skills” by serving in the real estate industry. Moreover, she also helped care for her mother during that time. Today, Lori applies that same commitment to serve Home Instead clients. A client commented, “It’s in her blood to be a CAREGiver.” Further evidence of her commitment, Lori has never called in for a shift in her seven years with Home Instead; rather, she frequently calls to ask how she can help even more clients.

When she isn’t caring for people through work, Lori enjoys helping others through volunteerism. She also stays active decorating, playing games, assembling puzzles, spending time outdoors, skiing, walking, shopping and traveling. She has even written children’s books.

May 2020 | Cassie

Prior to being a CAREGiver, Cassie served as a social worker. She applies many of the values and lessons from her previous role to how she serves clients today. And compliments consistently roll in!

Cassie makes a great first impression and, from that moment, continually puts her clients’ needs first. In fact, client Phyllis commented, “She is an angel. Thank you for doing a great job of providing care.” Still more, client Suzette said, “She is very determined and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. I love her great attitude. … A joy to have in my home!”

When she isn’t caregiving, Cassie plays piano, reads, refinishes antique furniture and spends time with family.

April 2020 | Sheila

One of Sheila’s clients shared with us that she takes many medications, and listening to the doctor list them off is overwhelming, as is common with many seniors. Sheila, a CNA who also has experience in private-care and nursing-facility settings, attends those medical appointments with her client, paying close attention to the doctor and taking handwritten notes so that she can review everything with her client at a slower pace and in the comfort and quiet of a home setting. Grateful, the client said, “I just don’t know what I would do without her.”

This approach is due to Sheila’s detailed work ethic. She makes sure that she knows as much as she can about her clients so that she can give them the best care possible.

When she’s not caregiving, Sheila enjoys playing bingo, attending church, crafting, reading and volunteering.

March 2020 | JoAnn

Whether family member or professional caregiver, witnessing the debilitating effects of dementia on an aging loved one or client is difficult. For the past several years, JoAnn has assisted her client through the many phases of this disease, always serving with kindness, patience and family-like love. Her presence also gives the client’s daughter the peace of mind she needs when she cannot be there.

In her free time, JoAnn enjoys assembling puzzles, shopping, listening to music and spending time with her grandchildren.

February 2020 | Carol

A team member described Carol by saying, “She gets to know her clients well and commits herself to providing tailored care to each client, based on needs, wants and personality.” In fact, when one of her clients passed away, Carol called the husband that morning and went over to the house to make sure he had companionship, breakfast and clean linens. And she still makes it a point to visit the client’s friends!

In her 10 years with us, Carol has repeatedly made people feel comfortable in difficult situations like this. A big part of being able to do so is her ability to be attentive and listen with patience.

In her free time, Carol likes to camp, fish, attend concerts, go walking, read, shop, bake and collect Elvis Presley memorabilia.

January 2020 | Adele

Adele possesses so many strengths that make her an example to follow. She views each client as unique and, because of that, tailors her cares to his or her unique needs. For example, she recently created an activity involving a balloon, which helped her client with arm exercises — and her client loved it! Adele is able to tailor her cares accordingly because she takes time to get to know each client, being attentive to what they’re saying without interrupting.

Outside of caregiving, Adele is a huge fan of art, jewelry, puzzles and card games. She also enjoys yoga; reading; crafting; and spending time with her children and beagle, named Frankie.
