Home Instead recognizes outstanding CAREGivers who demonstrate the
Attributes of Love (v). This program inspires CAREGivers to
strive for excellence, and it rewards CAREGivers for their hard work, compassionate care and dedicated service to others.
On an annual basis, we select a CAREGiver of the Year and celebrate him/her at a special reception at our office. Our
CAREGiver of the Year is also presented to our corporate headquarters in Omaha, Neb., as a nominee for the national award — The Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award.
A team member described Carol by saying, “She gets to know her clients well and commits herself to providing tailored care to each client, based on needs, wants and personality.” In fact, when one of her clients passed away, Carol called the husband that morning and went over to the house to make sure he had companionship, breakfast and clean linens. And she still makes it a point to visit the client’s friends!
In her 10 years with us, Carol has repeatedly made people feel comfortable in difficult situations like this. A big part of being able to do so is her ability to be attentive and listen with patience.
In her free time, Carol likes to camp, fish, attend concerts, go walking, read, shop, bake and collect Elvis Presley memorabilia.
Adele possesses so many strengths that make her an example to follow. She views each client as unique and, because of that, tailors her cares to his or her unique needs. For example, she recently created an activity involving a balloon, which helped her client with arm exercises — and her client loved it! Adele is able to tailor her cares accordingly because she takes time to get to know each client, being attentive to what they’re saying without interrupting.
Outside of caregiving, Adele is a huge fan of art, jewelry, puzzles and card games. She also enjoys yoga; reading; crafting; and spending time with her children and beagle, named Frankie.
In July 2017, Juliana came to us highly recommended. Not only has she fit the bill, but she has exceeded all expectations. Willing to go the extra mile, Juliana has a history of traveling most anywhere to help a client — regardless of the circumstances, even if she has the day off. It’s all part of her selfless, client-first approach to caregiving. In fact, a client recently said, “Juliana is an angel, and we absolutely love her ….”
Juliana likes to tend to her flower gardens, spend time outdoors, listen to music, sing, decorate, cook and bake.
With Home Instead for five years, Mary Jo has a reputation of being someone who goes above and beyond. It's why our Attribute of Commitment was chosen to best describe Mary Jo. In addition to being committed to Home Instead over the years, Mary Jo commits herself to her client and is willing to do whatever it takes, even working extra hours if necessary, to make life better for her. Her client commented, "I'm always glad to see her and sad to see her leave. She helps immeasurably with my physical and emotional needs. … She understands and gives me comfort. … We laugh together, and that makes me feel good. She is not only my CAREGiver, she is my friend… ." Outside of caregiving, Mary Jo enjoys golfing, bowling, reading, watching football and dancing. She also administers communion to seniors who cannot make it to church.
