Making memories as a family often starts in a central location within the home: the dinner table.
We have learned that nearly 50% of families that live near an aging loved one feel they do not share enough time with them during meals. We want to change that. Let's make family dinner a focal point of the week once again.
Home Instead Senior Care has launched the Sunday Dinner Pledge℠ to drive home the importance of the family dinner. This is an opportunity for people to take the pledge and make the commitment to hold regular family dinners with their older loved ones.
In the U.S, the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation will donate $1 to Meals on Wheels America, up to $20,000 total through July 31, 2015, for each person who commits to regularly scheduling family dinners with senior loved ones.
We have also partnered with Food Network celebrity Chef Melissa d’Arabian to put emphasis on this important tradition. In addition, a dietitian for the Home Instead Senior Care network has developed easy, nutritious recipes and healthy food plans.
Visit sundaydinnerpledge.com to take the pledge. You can also learn how to involve seniors in meal planning and preparation, pre- and post-dinner activities and suggestions for senior friendly meal planning at home or away.
Let's bring back the family dinner and make more memories!
