What do you know about Alzheimer’s Disease? Better yet: what do you know about the people who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease?

For many, the world of dementia is a scary shadow land that they avoid out of fear and ignorance. This is not necessarily their fault - we all fear what we do not understand. The only way to overcome that fear is to educate ourselves.

At Home Instead Senior Care, we saw an opportunity to build awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease (the 6th leading cause of death in the United States) and empowering people with the tools to recognize, understand and manage the behaviors.

To put this plan into place, we decided to identify local businesses that could benefit from this information and help us make a difference here and now. With decades of experience in senior care and Alzheimer’s Disease, we are taking what we know to these local businesses and giving their employees the training and resources they need to really make a difference. When they recognize a senior with Alzheimer’s Disease, they don’t need to be afraid or feel unprepared. Instead, they will know exactly what is happening and how to handle the situation.

We call this training program the “Alzheimer’ Friendly Business” initiative.

As with any new idea, one of the hardest steps is identifying where to start. We began thinking about which local businesses have the greatest reach and impact. Without a doubt, FresYes was our first choice. With its finger on the pulse of our community and thousands of daily visitors, who better to get the ball rolling? Add onto that Jason’s personal experience with a member of his family, and it was the perfect match.

Aside from just training his employees and agents about handling situations in the workplace, this training also empowers them to help their friends and family that may be struggling with the disease. As Alzheimer’s Disease does not discriminate between race, gender or even age, everyone is affected either directly or indirectly, and having this information will prove to be invaluable.

It is our sincere wish that by sharing this training with local businesses and their employees we might continue further enhance the lives of aging adults and their families.

Will you join us

If you know a business that could benefit from this training, email us their information at and we will reach out to them.
