You Can't Clip a Snowbird's Wings
I freaked out a little when mom and dad decided to become snowbirds, driving to South Carolina each year before the first snowfall. And when they decided to stay there year round, it was hard to understand how they could leave a place they'd called home their whole lives. And what would I do without them nearby?
It only took one trip to the Palmetto State to understand how my folks had found their paradise, and our visits became semi-annual events. My scrapbooks are filled with sweet memories of Dad taking the boys golfing at Myrtle Beach, Mom and I in beach chairs watching Kiawah Island's ruby sunrises and sunsets, and the kids gathering seashells on the miles of white beaches.
Dealing with Change
It's been terribly hard since Dad died last year. We've all been worried about Mom living on her own. I wish I could do more, but she's so far away. She needs some regular help
, but she's fiercely determined not to give up her independence. This has been a lot for her to deal with, and the last thing she needs is another big change like a move. I want to get her the care she deserves, but how can I ask her to give up the home she dearly loves?

Inspired by a Personal Experience
It was Paul and Lori Hogan's own personal experience caring for their 100-year-old grandmother in her home that inspired them to launch Home Instead Senior Care in 1994. They realized many families had the same need for non-medical in-home care and elder companionship that could help seniors live independently at home. The demand for these important services has been so great, that the company's network now has 800 locally owned franchises across North America and around the globe.
