Carol—a light in the dark.

Carol moved to the USA from Norway in 1995. She has been caring for others for as long as she can remember. Carol believes that someone becomes a CAREGiver the moment they choose to care for someone besides themselves. No matter who it is—husband, kids, family, a client, or patient—the moment you put their needs first,  that’s when you become a CAREGiver.

While living in Illinois, Carol moved in with an old family friend who needed care. During this time, Carol worked outside of the home as well. When her friend could no longer be left alone, Carol knew she would need some extra help. This is when Carol discovered Home Instead. She was fortunate to have Home Instead CAREGivers assist her friend while she was away at work.

In 1998, Carol made her big move to the Sunshine State. 2012 was the year she began working as a professional CAREGiver for Home Instead in Pensacola, Florida. Carol’s heart and eagerness to care for others has helped her develop inner connections with her clients, which she feels is an important part of being a CAREGiver.

Being a companion to someone who might not have anyone else, is another reason Carol enjoys being a CAREGiver. “Sometimes, I’m the only person the client might see in a week”. She understands the importance of engaging in activities her clients enjoy. Carol takes great pride in making it the best visit each time.

Carol’s life experiences have helped her in relating and caring for her clients. Carol stated, “I don’t care for fishing, but if that’s what my client likes, I know enough to have a conversation with them”. Listening is a crucial part in caregiving.

Carol has made an enormous impact on several clients by following the Home Instead mantra: Building Trust, Taking the Lead, and Sharing her Heart. One client stated, “I never knew a stranger could have such an impact on my life”.

Carol has been a light in the dark for so many of her clients over the years. She continues to go above and beyond while sharing her time, energy, and her heart with the seniors in the community.

Carol’s dedication to caring for others is unmeasurable. We are truly honored to have her here at Home Instead .
