December 2020 CAREGiver of the Month – Heather G.
Heather joined our team in March of 2020 right as the pandemic hit, looking for a career opportunity that would provide more satisfaction than her job at an ice cream parlor. An avid gardener, prior to COVID shutting things down, she had been actively involved in a garden club where many members were retired. Realizing she really missed spending time with these older adults, Heather was inspired to consider professional caregiving and apply at Home Instead. She also has a grandmother who works at a Memory Care facility helping Alzheimer's patients, and this provided Heather with valuable insight into what it takes to be a successful caregiver.
Heather feels working with seniors offers a new perspective on life and she loves the infinite wisdom she gains from every conversation she has with her clients and their families. When asked to share a favorite memory or experience with caring for her clients, Heather admits it is hard to pick just one saying, "Each shift is different and comes with its own delights, but I do particularly love the conversations where a client teaches me something, or when I can teach them something they didn't know."
A Colorado native, Heather has lived in the Centennial State most of her life. She attended Colorado School of Mines and is now taking online classes to become a veterinary technician. In addition to her love of gardening, in her free time, Heather enjoys jewelry making.
