A Tradition of Great Caregiving

At Home Instead Senior Care, we reward our local CAREGivers with CAREGiver of the Month and CAREGiver of the Year awards to show our appreciation for all they do. Home Instead, Inc. also recognizes regional CAREGivers of the Year and one special CAREGiver who shows exceptional dedication is the recipient of the national award — The Mary Steibel CAREGiverSM of the Year Award.

This program inspires CAREGivers to strive for excellence. It creates a sense of pride in the fact that the Home Instead Senior CareSM franchise network recognizes, appreciates and rewards their hard work, compassionate care and service to others.

May 2012 - Allison

Allison began working for Home Instead Senior Care in June of 2011 and has provided exceptional care to her clients! A friend of Allison's is also a CAREGiver for us and she encouraged her to apply. Allison wanted to give back to seniors and felt this would be a good way to make that happen.

When she's not caring for her clients, Allison enjoys spending time with her family. Her seventeen month old son keeps her busy and she enjoys camping in Ashford with her grandparents during the summer months. She loves scrapbooking and considers herself an all-American country girl at heart.

While working with her clients, Allison finds when they are having an off day the best way to handle it is to redirect their attention to some favorite family photographs or discussions of their younger years.

Her greatest joys of being a CAREGiver come from her clients and their families. They provide so much inspiration and have shown her that hard work really does pay off. Her biggest challenge lies in getting too attached to her clients. Finding the patience to manage demanding clients can be somewhat of a challenge as well.

One experience that stands out in her mind is when a fellow CAREGiver prepared a huge Thanksgiving dinner for them and they all ate together. The look on her client's face was so heartwarming and memorable.

Allison's advice to new CAREGivers is to remind yourself that your clients deserve to be treated as you would want your own loved ones to be treated. Patience is the main key to working with seniors! Allison, we are proud to have you on our team of CAREGivers!

March 2012 - Tony

Tony began working for Home Instead Senior Care in May 2010 and since then he has provided exceptional care to numerous clients. He is always willing to be a team player, often filling in for one of our CAREGivers at the last minute. He is currently a student at the University of Connecticut with a double major in Nursing and Biology. He knew at the age of 16 that he wanted to make a difference and help others. Tony states one of his greatest joys of being a CAREGiver is to see his clients smile! He loves knowing that he has been a comfort to them at this stage in their lives.

February 2012 - Debralee

Debralee joined Home Instead Senior Care in July of 2010. Since then, she has provided exceptional care to a few clients and has been a team player on a number of occasions filling in when needed. Debralee came to Home Instead when searching for a career change and felt it was the answer to enrich not only her life, but the lives of seniors as well. In taking care of her mother and grandmother she found their knowledge and humor very rewarding. Her hope was to help seniors enjoy life for as long as possible and her greatest joy has been walking in the door of the client’s home and getting a big smile. She loves knowing that she is welcomed into their home!

December 2011 - Theresa

Theresa is one of the most compassionate, observant, dependable, and dedicated care providers who has ever been part of our team. Since joining our team, Theresa has observed that we care deeply about our clients, their families, and our wonderful team of CAREGivers. Theresa’s inspiration for caregiving came from her mother, who set a very strong example of determination, compassion for others, and “above all, undying patience.” Theresa explains, “this not only molded me into the person I am today, but gave me the desire to dedicate all I’m unable to do for her into helping others have a better quality of life.” Theresa, thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us, our clients, and their family members.

November 2011 - Boubacar

Congratulations to Boubacar, our November 2011 CAREGiver of the Month. Since joining us in April 2010, Boubacar has shown that it is possible to be both a high quality CAREGiver and a high quality employee. His calming presence is appreciated by our clients, their families, other CAREGivers, and our office team. Boubacar believes, “there is nothing better than to be there when people need your help.” He adds, “It is important to get to know the client so that they can trust us as their companion.”

January 2011 - Sue

Sue has always had a passion for caring for others. Since joining Home Instead in 2010, Sue says that she has learned a great deal more about dementia and working with clients who are trying to manage the condition. Reflecting on her greatest experience as a CAREGiver to date, Sue doesn’t hesitate to talk about Bill, a relatively young senior who was considered appropriate for hospice care when we first began working with him. Over the course of roughly 8 months, however, Sue has been part of the team who has helped Bill return to a very healthy and life-loving state. Sue also has a fondness for another client for whom she played a role in adjusting to his new home environment in an assisted living facility. In him, she found someone who truly feels blessed in regards to his family and life.

October 2011 - Penney

Penney has consistently demonstrated the qualities that we believe define being an exemplary CAREGiver and employee. She began working with us in December 2010. Penney has worked with many of our clients, jumping right in to spend nearly 36 hours with her very first client. She manages to maintain a calm and soothing presence with all of her clients. Penney enjoys the office staff and especially enjoys her clients. Her greatest goal is to keep a client safe and happy in their own home.

April 2011 - Kay

Kay has consistently demonstrated the qualities that make Home Instead Senior Care so special to our clients. She is a people-person through and through and enjoys sharing memories with seniors. The most gratifying part of the job for Kay is seeing her clients’ health improve as she spends time caring for them. When she’s with her clients, Kay enjoys crossword puzzles, cooking and talking about books. Thank you, Kay, for all that you do!

February 2011 - Carole

We’re happy to honor Carole for her outstanding contributions as a CAREGiver. Carole came to us with extensive experience in taking care of her autistic son as well as other family members. Carole’s greatest desire is to bring comfort and care to people unable to care for themselves. She finds it very rewarding to provide pleasure and comfort to someone other than herself. Carole explains that she has learned that each person is an individual with their own personality, likes, wants and demands. She finds it very gratifying to see expressions of thanks on a client’s face after providing personal care.

January 2011 - Susan

Susan’s dedication to her clients and consistent, high-quality efforts over time are to be applauded. Susan joined Home Instead in August 2009. Since that time, she has worked with many of our families, spending significant amounts of time with two clients in particular. For both of these clients, Susan is viewed as part of the family. Her care, attention to detail, thoughtfulness about and respect toward her clients as individuals is deeply appreciated by her clients and us in the office. Susan works hard to form meaningful connections with all of her clients, and believes that every day with them is a blessing.

October 2010 - Bethany

Bethany joined our office in June 2009 and began working with her first client in July 2009. She not only goes above and beyond as a CAREGiver for our clients but also stands out as an exemplary employee. Bethany enjoys her work as a caregiver and feels that one of her greatest joys in life and in caregiving is making people laugh. She makes a point of bringing humor to her work with her clients. In her words, “Being able to joke and bring a smile, and even better a laugh, to any day is always a good thing!”

September 2010 - Suzy

We would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to Suzy Allen, who works consistently and tirelessly to provide terrific care for several of our clients. How did Suzy become a CAREGiver? In large part, Suzy’s desire to help families was triggered by her experience as the primary CAREGiver for her mother, who was diagnosed with and subsequently died from a rare terminal disease. As Suzy put it, “I am grateful that I had the will and stamina to be able to offer my love and help. I know how hard, tiring, and stressful it is for family members burdened with the care of a loved one. I wanted to help others through such a hard time.” Thank you again Suzy for being such a terrific CAREGiver!
