Be a Santa to a Senior™ Program
A couple years ago, the Fort Smith office of Home Instead Senior Care began the Be A Santa To A Senior ™ program. Home Instead works with various local community partners during the Christmas season to bring lonely, isolated seniors some Christmas cheer. A list of local needy seniors’ names is attained, along with their wish lists. These needs are places on ornaments that adorn trees at various establishments in the Fort Smith region. Community volunteers then purchase the gifts and drop them off at Home Instead Senior Care in Fort Smith. A “wrapping party” is help to wrap all the gifts and then the volunteers deliver the gifts.
Mission Medicine™
Many people, not just senior citizens, have unused or expired prescriptions. Instead of flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, which can be detrimental to the environment, the Fort Smith office of Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with the Fort Smith Police Department to dispose of these medications properly. Several times a year, Home Instead and the Police Department set up a drop location for area residents to drop off their medicines so they can be disposed of in a responsible, “green” manner.
Memory Walk
The Alzheimer’s Association holds an annual Memory Walk, which is usually its largest fundraiser. The Fort Smith office of Home Instead Senior Care is an annual sponsor and team member in effort to help raise funds for their valuable service in the River Valley.
