What makes Home Instead Senior Care different from other companies?

  • No other in-home, senior care company has earned the deep level of trust among clients, their family members and friends, and thousands of home health care, medical and social elder care organizations as Home Instead Senior Care.
  • Home Instead Senior Care in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is locally owned and operated, with its owners deeply involved in the business and entrenched in the communtiy.
  • We employ our CAREGivers (we are not a registry), therefore, we handle payroll, billing, taxes, insurance and administrative responsibilities.  Click on this link to read "What to Know If You Are The Boss of a Caregiver", an article published in The Wall Street Journal, March 19, 2009.
  • Our only hourly restriction is requiring a minimum of 4 hours of service per visit. We do not require a certain number of hours per week. We can be hired for one or two days, if that is what the cleint needs.
  • We drug screen upon hire and conduct random monthly drug and alcohol screening, which is not a requirement for licensure.
  • We not only conduct a state background check, we also require a national background check prior to employment.
  • Our CAREGiver Team approach allows us to fill shifts if a CAREGiver is sick or has an emergency.
  • We are on-call 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week. Someone from our office will answer the phone 90% of the time, exceptions made for high call volume and technical difficulties. If, by chance you call our office and are forwarded to voicemail, please leave a message. We will call you back as soon as possible.

How are CAREGivers selected?

First, the Home Instead Senior Care franchise network looks for people that have a passion to help seniors live independently.  Then each potential CAREGiver must successfully complete a thorough personal and professional reference and criminal background check.  We perform criminal background checks on both the national and state levels.  For further assurance to our clients, adding to their piece of mind, our CAREGivers are drug screened upon hire.  In addition, we perform monthly random drug and alcohol screening. Although drug and alcohol screening are not required by Virginia for licensing purposes, we feel this is important for the comfort and confidence of our clients.  Each CAREGiver is also bonded and insured.

How do you train your CAREGivers?

Home Instead CAREGivers attend our exclusive senior care training program.  Many also take special Alzheimer's and Hospice Care courses.  Our Personal Care CAREGivers either attend and pass our Personal Care training course, taught by full-time Registered Nurse, Billie Stewart, or pass a competency test if they have previously completed formal training (i.e. CNA's).  These courses are held in our training room, complete with a hospital bed, wheelchair, walker, bedside commode, hoya lift, etc.  All CAREGivers also complete 12 hours of continuing education annually.

Do you provide senior services to those in nursing homes or assisted living facilities?

Yes, Home Instead CAREGivers provide elderly companionship to residents in assisted living facilities and nursing homes who may require additional attention and/or personalized long term care.

Who pays the CAREGiver, you or me?

Your CAREGiver is employed by his or her locally, independentally owned and operated franchise, which means the local office handles all the billing, payroll, taxes, insurance and administrative responsibilities for your CAREGiver.

What are your rates and minimum hours of service?

Please call our office at 540-899-1422, for information on our rates, as they vary depending on level of care. We require a minimum of 4 hours of service per visit. This is our only requirement. We do NOT require a commitment for number of hours or days per week. Even if you only need us for one day, we will be there for you.

Is Home Instead Senior Care a maid service?

No, but CAREGivers can provide light housekeeping, laundry and ironing.
