The Third Annual Jack Bechtel Award for Outstanding
CAREGiver, 2011
The Jack Bechtel Award was established to honor the memory of a very dedicated, exceptional CAREGiver who made a remarkable difference in the life of his client. Jack Bechtel was with our Home Instead Senior Care office from 2006 until 2009. Sadly, Home Instead Senior Care lost Jack in 2009 to cancer, within a month of his being diagnosed. During the three years as a CAREGiver, Jack’s compassion and selflessness for his client was obvious. Jack ensured that his client, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, was treated with the upmost respect and dignity. Jack took great care to make sure his client was always well dressed, neatly groomed, cheerful, mentally stimulated and encouraged. Jack consistently went the extra mile for his client. This year’s award recipient also goes above and beyond for her clients. Over the past several years, she has made a positive difference in the lives of each and every one of her clients.
Martha encouraged and assisted one of her clients to plan and stick with a weight loss program, resulting in the client going from 226 pounds to 150 pounds. With Martha’s assistance, the client continues to stick to a healthy eating regime and maintain a healthy weight. This client is an expert seamstress so Martha taught her how to use a computer for making patterns.
Another one of Martha’s clients is very vocal in that he would never be able to stay at home due to his health problems if not for Martha. Even his dog loves Martha and waits eagerly every day for her to arrive.
One of Martha’s clients was not happy in her living environment and Martha was able to find her a very nice apartment near wonderful neighbors. This move has changed the client’s life for the better.
Martha’s current clients are part of a Medicaid diversion
program and they all share the same Care Manager through that
program. That care manager is so happy with what Martha has done for her clients that she said she never has to worry about them. The Care manager was very vocal in saying that Martha should definitely receive an award for her compassion and for going the extra mile for her clients and we certainly agree.
To date Martha has cared for 16 of our clients and for each and every one she gave 110% of her time, effort,
compassion and respect.
Thank you Martha and Congratulations
