Home Instead Senior Care
Pittsburgh – Central

We were determined to give back to [our mother] in the same way we were cared for. That has been made possible by the caring and competent care we all receive from Home Instead CAREGivers. They are well informed about Alzheimer's Disease, and...let her do what she can for herself with dignity, but are there to silently step in and help when she needs a little direction.

Reed Kovalan – Owner
Reed.Kovalan@homeinstead.com

Reed left a career in corporate finance in 2004 after a large Fortune 500 company purchased the company for whom he worked for nearly 10 years.  “I knew that my life was going to change.  The new company offered a wonderful opportunity to further my career, but with that new opportunity came new concerns, especially including an extensive travel requirement.  My stay-at-home, expectant wife Kate, and three children Grace, Daniel and Caroline, all under 5, and I had just moved into our “final” house.  The last thing that I wanted to do was to travel 4 days per week, only seeing Kate and the children on the weekends.  So, I did the next best thing by fulfilling a life long dream and started a business.  I spent the second half of 2003 studying industries and companies, and after extensive research, I concluded that senior services and home care was the right industry for not only sustained growth, but also as a place to apply my substantial client service skills.  I traveled to Detroit, Chicago, and Cincinnati, examining different franchising models, but it was not until I traveled to Omaha, Nebraska that I knew I found my future.”

Since 1994, Home Instead Senior Care had been helping business owners establish franchises that not only would help the new business become successful, but they did it based on the premise of serving our greatest generation.  With a proven blueprint for success from Home Instead Senior Care, Reed was so confident that he quit his job just weeks after baby Eleanor was born.  “We officially opened on August 16, 2004.  It was exciting, but truth be told, failure was not an option.  I had to support my young family.  I knew I would be successful because my focus was to honor our senior clients by delivering the best services by the most caring individuals.  I knew, that if we could provide our clients and their families exceptional ongoing service, that we would be successful.  I am happy to say that we have provided nearly a half a million hours of service to our clients over the years, and I know that each client is better off as a result of our CAREGivers’ excellent efforts and warm hearts.  I have also found that we provide more than just help for our clients.  We have the unique opportunity to give distant family members peace of mind, and a small respite from worry as it pertains to their loved ones.  I am also thrilled to know that we are a local employer of over 100 outstanding women and men that want to give a part of themselves to make someone else’s day a little brighter.”

“When I started the company back in 2004, I was a one-man-show.  One thing is certain, when working with people, you need to have exceptional support staff to make it work smoothly.  Through the years I have been fortunate enough to surround myself with an outstanding staff that has been integral to the success that we have experienced.”       Please visit my staff’s profiles under the “Our Team” Section:
