Be A Santa To A Senior

For the past seven years, approximately two million Christmas gifts have been given to needy, lonely seniors in North America through Home Instead Senior Care’s program called BE A SANTA TO A SENIOR. Home Instead of White Plains' Community Relations Representative Roberta Velichko successfully ran the program for its second year in Peekskill this Christmas. Here’s how it works:

Home Instead's Be A Santa To A Senior Program

Step 1: Identify Seniors For The Program
Working together with Margaret Lastique of Wellnes Information Senior Empowerment (WISE) and Julie Bentley, President of Peekskill Seniors, we identified about 50 seniors to be recipients of the program.

Shown here are Margaret, Roberta and Julie.

Step 2: Partner With Local Retailer Walgreen's
Home Instead Senior Care of White Plains partnered with Walgreen's on Main St.in Peekskill. We placed a Christmas tree with tags of the senior participants names in the store. Patrons were encouraged to select a tag, shop for a gift, and place the gift in the collection box.

Here Roberta Velichko works with Walgreen's employees to prepare the tree in the store.

Step 3: Be A Santa To A Senior
The collected gifts were wrapped and given out to the senior gift recipients at a pizza party on December 15th. Everyone enjoyed pizza and sodas donated by Dominoes Pizza on Route 6 in Cortlandt Manor.

Shown here are Enrique Reynoso and Kristen Catucci, Drug Store Managers of Walgreens, sitting with participating seniors.

"Thank You" to Margaret, Julie and the folks at Walgreen's for partnering with Home Instead Senior Care of White Plains to bring a blessing to our Peekskill seniors!
