For the past year and a half, our mother, Margaret, has received full-time home care from caregivers Rita, Adriana and Haydee. Each of these caregivers brings special skills and capabilities to the caregiving situation, providing excellent, consistent care and insuring that our mother is comfortable in her own home. This trio of caregivers who collectively provide full-time care for our mother are mature, responsible, focused, compassionate and nurturing. They maintain a clean home, balanced meals and personal care at a level that would meet our mother's high expectations if she were able to care for herself. Very importantly, they communicate needs and concerns with one another at shift change, as well as with us as family members, providing seamless, consistent, vigilant care, which enables us to go about our daily lives, assured that our mother is at all times in very good hands. If there is an award for Caregiving Team of the Year, this trio is most deserving of the recognition, and receives our nomination.

When the hospital released mother in March, she was very weak and could not walk or stand. My father was extremely upset because my mother was so ill. He is a man of action and there was no action he could take by himself to make things better. My sister and I did not think my mother would ever be able to walk again and were not even sure if it would be possible for her to get the care she needed at home. We were beside ourselves with worry and we didn't know how to help our dad.
From the moment we met Elena through HOME INSTEAD, she kept assuring us over those first few months that our family situation WOULD get better, our mom WOULD get stronger and that she WOULD walk and OF COURSE our dad would feel better soon, he just needed time. She showed us how by example. She was and is always so positive.
She made sure both of my parents had enough physical activity every day to help them get stronger. Elena continually engaged them socially. She talked to them about anything and everything. She worked with my mother doing physical therapy exercises as directed by her physical therapist. She went to great pains to cook wonderful meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She skimped on nothing that would help them. I saw her determination in action!
Besides providing excellent care for my parents (cooking, cleaning and personal grooming) in a situation that is both physically and mentally challenging Elena has opened a new window of possibilities for my parents to explore even at this stage in their lives. Elena takes everyone into her heart but when she has clients she also takes them into her life! On her days with my parents Elena has taken my parents places they haven't been in years, the movies, the beach, picnics.. She has introduced my mom and dad to other seniors of her acquaintance that are in similar situations to theirs and made them feel not so isolated by time and situation. She has really raised their spirits.
I have learned from being around Elena that she is a woman of strong Christian faith and that she lives her faith through her dedicated work with the elderly. My sister and I are so pleased and grateful to have had Elena come into our familys lives. She has made an immeasurable difference in the quality of life for her clients Bill and Mable, ages 88 and 82 both of whom through her determination and theirs are now strong, up and walking. I am very satisfied with Home Instead Senior Care. Jorge and Alicia do a great job caring for my husband. Lately his condition has worsened and the help these two provide is priceless. I find it difficult by myself to assist my husband helping him to the restroom at night and providing him the proper care he needs at this time. Home Instead is a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or convalescent home and I am able to have my husband home with me and give him the help he needs and Jorge and Alicia have given me the rest I need. I've been with Home Instead Senior Care since 2005 and have loved every bit of it. The caregivers have been wonderful to me and have given me a great relief in my time of need. I signed on for only a few hours a couple times a week and when I needed more help they easily arranged for it for me, increased, decreased my schedule, they were very flexible with what my needs were.
