Thanks to the many volunteers who helped Lubbock's homebound needy seniors by either purchasing or delivering much needed gifts. "This is the only Christmas I'm going to have", said one grateful senior as she opened up the robe and slippers she requested. Many individuals and businesses came together for the 7th Annual Be a Santa to a Senior program. Over 500 individuals were identified by social service agencies such as Meals on Wheels or Adult Protective Services as possibly being overlooked at Christmas.
The requested items included much needed clothing, blankets or sometimes even food. Volunteers wrapped and delivered gifts, and spent time visiting with seniors as they brought them a gift. Additionally, contributions of blankets, space heaters, personal care items and food were collected for the Adult Protective Services Silver Star Room. This room is managed by APS and allows case workers to access supplies in emergency situations when one of their client's is in immediate need.
We appreciate every single one of you who took time to brighten the life of a needy senior. Your kindness and generosity has demonstrated the true spirit of neighborly love that exists in Lubbock.
