Home Instead Senior Care in San Mateo Awards $10,000 to Senior Coastsiders

Home Instead Senior Care serving North and Central San Mateo County has donated $10,000 to Senior Coastsiders which helped repair homes of seniors and adults with disabilities.

Martie Cruz, owner of the local Home Instead Senior Care office, and her team presented the gift to Senior Coastsiders during Home Rehab Day on June 7.

Since 1977, Senior Coastsiders has served as a resource for information on aging, supported area caregivers, and developed innovative approaches to address issues of aging. The non-profit organization assists seniors and adults with disabilities living on the coast side from Montara to Pescadero.

"We strive to create an atmosphere that acknowledges and affirms the value, dignity and self worth of seniors and adults with disabilities," said Cara Schmaljohn, executive director of Senior Coastsiders.

According to Schmaljohn, the purpose of Home Rehab Day is to help seniors and adults with disabilities live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

"This year the program made improvements to 14 homes," she said.  "This generous contribution helped construct four wheelchair ramps for deserving seniors."

Home Instead Senior Care is proud to work alongside Senior Coastsiders, said Cruz. "We both contribute in unique ways to the health and well-being of older adults," she said.
