Home Instead Senior Care Began from Personal Experience
Paul and Lori Hogan founded Home Instead, Inc. and began serving seniors in Omaha, Nebraska, as Home Instead Senior Care in 1994. It was Paul Hogan's own family experience caring for his grandmother that made him realize the need for non-medical home care and elder companionship services to help seniors live independently at home.
Fufilling a need in Chester County
Home Instead Senior Care began taking care of Chester County residents in 2002. The office was opened by Bob and Allison Fanelli. The Fanelli’s were retired and living in Herhey’s Mill when Bob realized he didn’t want to just play golf and talk about the weather for the rest of his life. At the same time Bob was caring for his mother who had dementia but noticed there wasn’t much in the way of getting reliable support from the community. By chance he and Allison ran into a Home Instead Senior Care representative in an airport and a few months later he opened the office in West Chester serving the residents of Chester County.
Less than a year into building their business, the Fanelli’s hired Phil McFadden and Amy Herkins. Phil was a long time friend of Bob’s and started out part time helping represent Home Instead Senior Care to the local hospitals and senior communities and also arranging services for clients and introducing CAREGivers to new clients. Amy started out as a CAREGiver but Bob quickly realized her potential and brought her into the office to help with scheduling, hiring CAREGivers and invoicing. At that time there were just a handful of clients and CAREGivers but the need for Home Instead Senior Care was quickly realized by its rapid growth.
In 2007 Bob and Allison sold the business to Phil and Amy who continue to work hard raising the bar for quality in non-medical home care. Phil says, “In the beginning our general rule of thumb was ‘What would we want for our parents and how would we like to be treated by the company taking care them.’ It is a pretty simple concept but we understood as did the entire Home Instead Senior Care network that you can’t do it right if you don’t have the right CAREGivers.” Hiring and training local CAREGivers and then treating them with respect and dignity has been a core principle of the Chester County Home Instead Senior Care office from the beginning.
Today Home Instead Senior Care in West Chester has over 200 CAREGivers and has served over 1500 residents. The office is staffed with a number of caring and compassionate professionals looking to provide solutions for the families and seniors who need our help.
Our mission is to always work toward a solution for our clients, CAREGivers, referral providers and co-workers, to say yes with a smile when asked for the services we provide, and to always exceed expectations.
