Today Home Instead Senior Care participated as a sponsor in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. The event took place in Chicago, at the Lakefront and Montrose Ave. Over 3000 walkers took part in the fundraiser, which benefits the Alzheimer's Association in areas of research for Alzheimer's and dementia, as well as the support services and programs they provide. The event is attended by a wide assortment of participants. Many are family caregivers who have a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease. Others are professionals like Home Instead Senior Care, who provide live-in or part time care for elderly individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's & see numerous examples in the community of the disease's impact. Caregivers working in the home health care industry know first hand the challenges of providing care such as bathing, dressing, errands, companionship, and other services to individuals with the disease. The day was perfect: sunny, warm, and a slight breeze (quite a different story from last year which was rainy and muddy!). Home Instead Senior Care was proud to have over 40 walkers. Our team raised almost $1500 for Alzheimer's Disease support and reasearch. Thanks to all who participated, and hope to see you all next year there!

We hosted an End of Summer Party for our CAREGivers in our Skokie office on Monday, with employees from all over Chicago and the North Shore in attendance. It was a wonderful opportunity for our hard-working CAREGivers to take a break from their home health duties and have fun with each other! Activities included Pictionary with caregiving and home care related topics, a scrapbooking demonstration for use with the caregivers' elderly clients, and a discussion group covering topics such as home care techniques for Alzheimer's, dementia and Parkinson's patients. Our CAREGivers were also asked to bring their favorite recipe that they have used in the course of their home health care duties, and the recipes were compiled into a cookbook that the CAREGivers were able to take home with them so that their clients would benefit from our CAREGivers' collective cooking expertise!
