2009 CAREGiver of the Year
The person selected for CAREGiver of the year in Goodlettsville has been employed with Home Instead Senior Care since 01/12/07. She is the mother of Haley who is 32 years old.
Over the past year she has not been able to have a lot of personal time due to working for Home Instead Senior Care. She has worked six days a week to take care of the clients for our company. This has been at the sacrifice of her family. Her care, compassion, and dedication truly exemplify what a CAREGiver of the year should be.
We are very appreciative of the understanding her family has shown during this past year and thank them for sharing her so she can take care of our clients. It is our honor to introduce the Goodletsville CAREGiver of the year Ms. Phyllis Dorris.
She was born in Tennessee however she spent most of her life on a farm in Kentucky. She is an animal lover that extends her heart to all types of animals. Hummingbirds are her favorite type of bird and she enjoys watching them in their natural habitat. Phyllis appreciates art and sharing it with other people.
My experience with her during her employment with Home Instead Senior Care is that she is a very humble lady that prefers to go unnoticed.
She has been a caregiver that was willing to help out when we were in a bind to take care of a client. She takes time to understand the client and works her tasks around their needs and abilities.
During a Quality Assurance visit she explained how she worked with her client's unique situation to assist him with a bath. Due to a head injury he is fearful of taking a shower unless someone is in there with him. She puts on her spare clothes and assists him in the shower while they sing together. Phyllis realized that singing and having someone close by was the recipe to achieve this task. He then comes out refreshed and joyful with a song on his lips and joy in his heart.
She has laughed, cried, and worried with each of her clients as she has walked with them thru a part of their lives.
