Local Home Instead Senior Care Office
Joins Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk
Your San Luis Obispo County Home Instead Senior Care is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association as part of Memory Walk 2008. The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk™ is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. Held annually in hundreds of communities across the country, this inspiring event calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer's.
In San Luis Obispo the walk will be held on October 25th at Laguna Lake Park. We are offering up to four FREE respite care hours of service the day of the walk to anyone that wants to join our "Home Instead Senior Care Central Coast" team but would not otherwise be able to participate due to care issues for a loved one. Anyone interested in becoming a team member or who would like details can contact Tiffany Alcantara at 805-773-3744.
"Every 71 seconds, someone in America develops Alzheimer's disease," said Tiffany Alcantara, Manager of the local Home Instead Senior Care. "Our CAREGiversSM witness the staggering impact of this disease not only on seniors but their families as well. That's what makes this project so meaningful for our entire company."
An estimated 5.2 million Americans five million of which are age 65 and older have Alzheimer's disease in 2008, according to Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures 2008, recently released by the Alzheimer's Association. Proceeds from Memory Walk 2008 will support the mission of the Alzheimer's Association to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Nearly 200 Home Instead Senior Care offices throughout the United States are participating in Memory Walk 2008. All national team participants receive name and logo recognition for their partnership in the event.
"We are very proud of our participation as platinum National Team Members of the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk," said Home Instead Senior Care President Roger Baumgart. "We are excited about this opportunity to partner with such a great group that is working so hard to fight this terrible disease."
