Our thumbs up, thumbs down review
on recent events and issues....
The Pismo Beach office of Home Instead Senior Care and its caregivers have earned a double thumbs-up this week for helping to make the lives of isolated and lonely senior citizens brighter during the holidays.
For the past five years, the office has provided 5,000 gifts and hours of Christmas companionship to shut-in senior citizens across San Luis Obispo County through the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
Without the program, many of the county’s elderly wouldn’t receive a single Christmas gift, and they surely wouldn’t get a visit from someone looking to share some holiday cheer with them. Sadly, most would spend the Christmas season alone.
Unfortunately, senior citizens are often the forgotten population, especially when it comes to the holidays, a time when most families are together and many seniors are left feeling lonely and left out.
There seems to be a preconceived idea that seniors are living with their families, in assisted living and care centers or have nearby family to provide for them and don’t need to be remembered during the holidays. Nothing could be further from the truth.
According to Home Instead Senior Care, there are hundreds of senior citizens in every community who live alone and have no family close by.
Home Instead Senior Care has embraced the true spirit of Christmas with its Be a Santa to a Senior program and helps ensure the county’s elderly aren’t overlooked when the jolly man in the red suit comes to town.
