She also works closely with many of local housing and assisted living facilities serving the senior population.

She is avidly involved in the coordination of the Aging & Disability Network of Saratoga County, and has served on the Capital Region Caregiver Coalition, Discharge Planning Workgroup and a variety of committees for the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY. Maureen Carpenter is our Office Manager. She enjoys working under her two tough bosses, her Mom and Dad. Maureen has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Relations from the University of Maryland, College Park. Go Terps!. She worked as an event planner and public relations associate in Manhattan for two years after graduation. She then lived in Maui for three years where she grew a passion for Scuba Diving and found the love of her life, her fiancee Chris, a fellow New Yorker. After living the good life in Maui she decided to move back closer to her family and is now living in Saratoga Springs.
Maureen has worked for Home Instead periodically throughout its existence in Saratoga Springs in a variety of assignments and positions, and is now quite comfortable with her new title of Office Manager. Her favorite part about working with Seniors is hearing their tales and adventures and sometimes even getting to share her own.

Kathie VanDerMark started with us shortly after we began serving seniors in Saratoga Springs. She is now our Staff Coordinator. In that role, she is responsible for managing client and CAREGiver schedules and focuses on matching clients with CAREGivers who are best suited to meet their specific needs. She has an uncanny ability to team up clients and CAREGivers that mesh from day one.
In 2003, she became the on-call supervisor for the weekends which she continues to do. In May of 2006 she joined Home Instead on a full time basis, first as an Administrative Assistant and more recently as Staff Coordinator.
Kathie and her husband have done Native American crafts since 2000 and in 2007 opened a Native American trading post on their property.

Sherri Butler is our Client Care Representative. In that role she is our face to potential new clients. She meets with potential clients and often their families, to determine if the services provided by Home Instead are appropriate to meet the client's specific needs. She also performs follow-up visits to clients to determine on-going satisfaction with our services and CAREGivers. Sherri was born and raised in Yankton SD (hometown of Tom Brokaw). She graduated from Sioux Falls College in 1985 with a B.A. in Religious Studies and Psychology. She was married in 1985 and spent the first 10 years living and traveling in 4 different States across the U.S. and Germany with her husband who was an Army Helicopter Pilot. She spent the last 13 years in New York State and loves it. Sherri started with Home Instead 5 years ago as a CAREGiver after being a stay at home Mom for her two children for 10 years. After working as a CAREGiver for 10 months she joined the office staff. She began as a part time Staffing Coordinator and moved to her current role in 2006. Her favorite aspect of her job is getting to hear so many stories from Senior Adults.

Maryellen Carpenter is our Bookkeeper, Payroll Expert, and all-around financial guru. The Boss is lucky to be married to her.
Maryellen also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University at Albany. She worked for New York State government for 32 years, retiring in August of 2002 from her position as Director of Human Resources Management for the New York State Division of the Budget. Following a three week "retirement", she joined Home Instead Senior Care, where she quickly learned to do everything. Over the last few years, we have hired the staff you met above, and her life is now simpler.
Maryellen and Nelson's family has recently expanded. Their son Michael was married last year in Charlottesville Virginia, adding daughter-in-law Kate to our family fortune. Kate and Mike reside in New York City, a favorite place for us to visit, and where they'll be welcoming their new daughter in March. Our daughter Maureen, after a 2 year stint in a pubic relations firm in New City followed by three years in the leisure business in Hawaii, has returned to Saratoga and is now our General Manager.

Nelson Carpenter is the Owner of NEC CARE, Inc. doing business as Home Instead Senior Care.
Nelson started Home Instead in Saratoga Springs following a diverse career in health benefits. He was Director of Employee Health Benefits in the New York City Mayor's Office of Labor Relations and later Deputy Director of the NYS Governor's Office of Employee Relations. Upon leaving government he served as Vice President of Value Health, Inc. and National Vice President of Prudential Healthcare. After working for mega-sized employers for over 33 years, Nelson thought it might be nice to work for a smaller company, so he started his own. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Senior Center of Saratoga Springs, the Visiting Nurse Services Foundation of Schenectady and Saratoga Springs, and recently served on the Board of the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY. He is President of the Lake Placid Club Lodges Resort and his family spends much of their free time in Lake Placid. He and his wife Maryellen live on McGregor Golf Course where he is a fairly mediocre golfer. She's pretty good.
