Maureen Hopkins - General Manager Maureen has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Relations from the University of Maryland, College Park. Go Terps!. She worked as an event planner and public relations associate in Manhattan for two years after graduation. She then lived in Maui for three years where she grew a passion for Scuba Diving and found the love of her life, her husband Chris, a fellow New Yorker. After living the good life in Maui she decided to move back closer to her family and is now living in Saratoga Springs.
Maureen has worked for Home Instead periodically throughout its existence in Saratoga Springs in a variety of assignments and positions, and is now quite comfortable with her new title of Office Manager. Her favorite part about working with Seniors is hearing their tales and adventures and sometimes even getting to share her own.   Kathie VanDerMark - Staff Coordinator Kathie VanDerMark started with us shortly after we began serving seniors in Saratoga Springs. She is now our Staff Coordinator. In that role, she is responsible for managing client and CAREGiver schedules and focuses on matching clients with CAREGivers who are best suited to meet their specific needs. She has an uncanny ability to team up clients and CAREGivers that mesh from day one. In 2003, she became the on-call supervisor for the weekends which she continues to do. In May of 2006 she joined Home Instead on a full time basis, first as an Administrative Assistant and more recently as Staff Coordinator.
Kathie and her husband have done Native American crafts since 2000 and in 2007 opened a Native American trading post on their property.   Linda Powers - Client Care Coordinator Linda Powers, PHR is our Client Care Coordinator. In that role she is our face to potential new clients. She meets with potential clients and often their families, to determine if the services provided by Home Instead are appropriate to meet the client's specific needs. She also performs follow-up visits to clients to determine on-going satisfaction with our services and CAREGivers.
In previous positions Linda was a business and human resources professional, and an adjunct instructor for computer basics and Microsoft Office (Nassau Community College and SUNY Adirondack). Linda received her Master of Arts degree in Business and Policy Studies and undergraduate in Education and Business. A believer in lifelong learning, she received her professional human resources certification earning the PHR title for the periods of 2007-2010 and recertification for 2010-2013. Linda also completed a medical transcription course (terminology, anatomy and transcription) in May 2010 and received Microsoft Certified Application certification for Word 2007.
She enjoys meeting people and her current role will provide substantial opportunity for doing just that. Outside of work she and her husband enjoy the outdoors: camping, boating, fishing, and snowshoeing.
  Marie Britt - Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Marie received her undergraduate degree in Education from Syracuse University and completed her graduate work at the College of St. Rose. After teaching for many years she worked in various positions at assisted living facilities. She really enjoys working at Home Instead Senior Care with the experienced office staff and the excellent CareGivers. Her favorite part of working here is finding caring and compassionate people and educating them with Home Instead’s extensive CAREGiver training program.
Marie lives in Saratoga Springs with her husband and enjoys skiing, snowshoeing, ballroom dancing and ballet. She is very happy to have her two daughters home after their travels abroad following their graduations.
  Maria Geizer Maria received her BA in Psychology from Syracuse University, and has held many positions in the field of mental health counseling and education. Maria developed and facilitated educational programs and counseling groups for family members of people with mental health issues, as well as programs for the general public that were designed to help combat the stigma associated with mental illnesses. Maria also has worked with children and adults, providing individual and group counseling, as well as case management and crisis intervention. She was fortunate enough to manage both family education and psychiatric intensive outpatient programs, and she had the opportunity to perform both clinical and marketing roles in each. Maria enjoys the outreach and connections made to other service professionals in the area that the role of Community Relations Director provides. She appreciates the opportunity to educate others about a program for which she feels passionate. She feels extremely lucky to be able to work for Home Instead Senior Care.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys running road races, including half-marathons, but has not quite graduated to the full marathon. She also enjoys hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends and her constant canine companion, Daisy.
  Maryellen Carpenter - Vice President Maryellen Carpenter is our Vice President, financial guru and payroll expert.
Maryellen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University at Albany. She worked for New York State government for 32 years, retiring in August of 2002 from her position as Director of Human Resources Management for the New York State Division of the Budget. Following a three week "retirement", she joined Home Instead Senior Care, where she quickly learned to do everything. Over the last few years, we have hired the staff you met above, and her life is now simpler.
Maryellen and Nelson's family has recently expanded. Their son Michael and daughter-in-law Kate reside in New York City with their 2 year old daughter Lila and her new sister, Casey. Since Lila and Casey's arrival, New York City has become one of our favorite places to visit. Our daughter Maureen married Chris Hopkins last summer on Cape Cod and have recently added puppy Allie to their family.
  Nelson Carpenter - Owner Nelson Carpenter is the Owner of NEC CARE, Inc. doing business as Home Instead Senior Care.
Nelson started Home Instead in Saratoga Springs following a diverse career in health benefits. He was Director of Employee Health Benefits in the New York City Mayor's Office of Labor Relations and later Deputy Director of the NYS Governor's Office of Employee Relations. Upon leaving government he served as Vice President of Value Health, Inc. and National Vice President of Prudential Healthcare. After working for mega-sized employers for over 33 years, Nelson thought it might be nice to work for a smaller company, so he started his own. He recently served on the Board of Directors of the Senior Center of Saratoga Springs, the Visiting Nurse Services Foundation of Schenectady and Saratoga Springs, and the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern NY. He is President of the Lake Placid Club Lodges Resort and his family spends much of their free time in Lake Placid. He and his wife Maryellen live on McGregor Golf Course where he is a fairly mediocre golfer. She's pretty good.   Maddie - Official Greeter Maddie is now semi-retired and shares the Official Greeter duties with rescue dog Allie. These friendly greeters welcome all visitors and guests to Home Instead. Nowithstanding rave reviews from almost all visitors, neither Maddie nor Allie has yet to receive a promotion or new duties.
