Leslie, a Hospice Field Nurse from Amedisys recently called our office to let us know that one of our clients was being released from Hospice.  She accredited 80% of her remarkable recovery to Sylvia’s wonderful care.  Sylvia is motivating the client to eat without being bossy and forceful.  Sylvia is also cooking meals and seeing that her client has more of a routine than she has had in the past.

It is not common for a person to be released from Hospice but due to Sylvia’s efforts and commitment, this client has shown significant improvements.  This instance is the spirit of Home Instead in action.

Thank you and congratulations, Ms. Sylvia!

Bettie D. - September 2010

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Bettie D. has been selected as the CAREGiver of the Month for September 2010. Our CAREGiver of the Moth is honored for exemplifying Home Instead Senior Care’s commitment to our clients. Mrs. Bettie works with a special needs couple and she goes above and beyond all the time for these two clients. Because are both Alzheimer’s patients, the assignment is a real challenge. There are numerous stories to tell but a good illustration of Bettie’s commitment occurred one weekend when the overnight CAREGiver could not get Mrs. A. to calm down. That CAREGiver called Bettie, and at 10:00 p.m. Mrs. Betty got out of her bed and went to the house to calm Mrs. A. down. She even went back out on Sunday morning to make sure Mrs. A. was okay. Ms. Bettie comes on Saturday mornings to bring Mr. A. to music lessons with her grandson at BREC. Mr. A. was a music major and loves the piano. Mr. A. also loves to visit the Thomas Road area where he grew up, so Bettie often drives him out to that neighborhood. He lights up like a Christmas tree! Says Condtrenda, “I can go on and on about the love, compassion and dedication Mrs. Bettie has for the A.’s, but there are not enough words in the dictionary to describe what Mrs. Bettie means to the clients and to HISC. To sum up everything Mrs. Bettie is the wind beneath the wings of the A.’s and she keeps flying with them!” Thank you and congratulations, Ms. Bettie!

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Carol D. has been selected as the CAREGiver of the Month for June 2010. The CAREGiver of the Month is honored for exemplifying Home Instead Senior Care’s commitment to our clients. The difference Carol makes in the lives of all her clients is summed up in this thank you note from the niece of one: ..."Now that my aunt is settled in to her assisted care facility, she is no longer in need of caregiver assistance from Home Instead Senior Care. Your services/caregivers have been invaluable to us, Cynthia's family, since we live out-of-state from Baton Rouge. May I personally say how much I appreciate Carol D. - her kindness and patience with Cynthia has been a great comfort to me. If any need should arise in the future for assisted care, I will definitely be in touch with Home Instead. Thank you, Joanna R." Thank you and congratulations, Ms. Carol!!

Aside from the day-to-day routine of her household responsibilities and the personal care she gives to the Brothers, Frances finds time to do things that will enhance their retirement years.  Frances knows the intricacies of each Brother’s life, helping each to document his journey at the house with photos and his own personalized scrapbook.  His journal has become a truly valuable resource for one Brother with Alzheimer’s, helping him function at a higher level.  This is just one example of her caring and compassion, helping her clients to live in the moment and moments.

Melanie also recently walked into a case with a client nearing the end of life.  Melanie did a fabulous job making that client’s last days comfortable, pain free, even delightful.

Because she is always ready to help out, Melanie is considered a rock in time of trouble here at Home Instead.  Says Contrenda, “She is my angel that always has my back when I need her.  She is truly what Home Instead CAREGivers stand for.”

Lori has been with HISC for four and a half years. She is always on time and hardly ever calls out. Her dedication and commitment to her clients is outstanding.

Lori has been with one family for much of the time she has been at HISC.  The family knows that Lori loves them, but she “doesn’t tolerate no mess.”   This simply shows the love and care she gives them.

She also adds laughter to the clients’ home.  She will pretend to Miss U.S.A. or Cinderella if they have too many requests at once.  It helps them see that she’s only one person and can only handle one request at a time.    The clients always have a funny story to tell about Lori.  Once Mrs. C. wanted a better look at a snake on the sidewalk.  Though almost hysterical herself, Lori persevered and brought Mrs. C. close enough for a fair view.

Lori is truly what HISC stands for.  She goes above and beyond, never complaining and always dedicated to her client family.  She has brought stability and trust to this client home.  Says Care Management, "She is truly Heaven sent."

Delores E. - February 2010

Ms. Ivy has 3,650 hours of service with Home Instead—2,577 of the hours with same client.  Ivy truly has changed that client’s situation because of her loving, patience and consistency.

Her longtime client resides in a facility, and the environment there can be a difficult one in which to work.  In the middle of it all, Ivy busily goes about helping her client, while patting or smiling at other residents along the way.  Not only does Ivy please her client and her client’s family, but she also has pleased the staff at the facility as well.

Willie M. - November 2009

Every month Home Instead recognizes one CAREGiver who by his or her tireless, compassionate, and devoted service exemplifies our dedication to seniors.  We are pleased to announce that Mr. Willie M. is the Home Instead Senior Care CAREGiver of the Month for November 2009.  Congratulations, Mr. Willie!

Mr. Willie has worked a total of 3,975 hours, working almost half that time with one male client.  During that time, the two developed a close bond and mutual respect.  The client enjoyed having Mr. Willie as his CAREGiver because they liked the same things and they could relate “man to man.”  Willie was with the client when he passed and the family commended Mr. Willie for notifying the hospice nurse and family when the time was near. His quick action allowed the family to say “goodbye” to the client.

Mr. Willie is always willing to give a helping hand, has a gentle spirit and always has a smile in his voice when he speaks.  Mr. Willie is irreplaceable to the HISC family.  He is not only a good CAREGiver, but a good man!

Beverly M. - October 2009

CAREGiver of the Month, October 2009

Beverly has worked with some of our most challenging clients, yet never complains.  She works live-in shifts with only a 2-3 day break in between.

Beverly goes above and beyond the call of duty, always with a smile on her face.

She laughs about playing “go fish” for hours, saying it is delightful to see her client enjoying herself.

One family never thought they would see daylight and thanks to Beverly, “the sun finally shines!”  The client now sleeps nights and is not as depressed.  Another client said we should use Beverly to train other CAREGivers on how to be patient and sweet.

Incredibly, Beverly actually had a heart attack while on a shift, yet worked the whole assignment.  The only time she has missed work in her tenure is when she was recovering from open-heart surgery; even then, she was back on the job in five weeks!

Congratulations, Ms. JoAnn!  Ms. JoAnn's outgoing client needed a "pal," someone who could take him for coffee or on various outings.  She became just that!  Whatever made her client happy, Ms. JoAnn was willing to do.  Although her pal is now in a nursing home, Ms. JoAnn visits to just sit and hold his hand, continuing their special relationship.  Her longtime client's daughter says Ms. JoAnn treated the entire family as if they were part of her family.  As we at Home Instead like to say, "to us, it's personal."
