Don and Patricia Wells - Our Founders

Don and Patricia started this Home Instead Senior Care office in August of 2001 with the intent of delivering the highest quality of personalized care available for seniors in the communities of Augusta, Rockbridge, and Rockingham Counties.  Don’s enthusiastic compassionate ways and Patricia’s focus on the details were the foundation of our caring philosophy…to delight our Clients and their families with our services.  Don passed away in 2009 and Patricia decided to retire in 2010.  We honor their service.

Roger Boles

Roger Boles - Owner

Roger and his wife, Pam, became our new owners in August, 2010.  He started a career in healthcare soon after college and has spent many years specializing in the area of Dialysis.  Roger’s extensive management experience with growing companies is very important as our organization expands to serve the needs of the surging senior population here in the Shenandoah Valley.  An important legacy which he wholeheartedly supports is our commitment to extensive CAREGiver training and Quality Assurance programs including Client satisfaction surveys by J.D. Power and Associates.  He is a member of the Alzheimer’s Regional Council, the National Private Duty Association, and also the Chambers of Commerce in Greater Augusta, Lexington/Rockbridge, and Harrisonburg/Rockingham. Roger enjoys life and the love of his family, church, and friends.  He also tries not to get injured too often as he participates in his hobbies of cycling, golf, and hunting!  He and Pam live in Staunton and enjoy the beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Pam Boles

Pam Boles - Owner

Pam is officially in charge of the emotional care and feeding of our CAREGivers and office staff.  This is a demanding job and her background in administration of a church school along with her empathetic skills makes her well suited to the tasks.  She conducts many follow up phone calls to ensure our Clients and CAREGivers are happily and compatibly matched.  Pam has honed her amazing patience being married to Roger for 30 years and raising 3 sons:  Stephen & his wife Emily, John & Ethan.  She is hoping some grandchildren are on the horizon…but, in the meantime she enjoys quiet times reading and sewing.
DJ Wells

Don Wells, Jr. - General Manager

“D.J.” joined us in 2007 after a long management career with a national restaurant chain.  His focus on Client satisfaction and proper recordkeeping is an important part of his style.  Among many other things, he oversees our unique, computerized time clock system which confirms that our CAREGivers are at their assignments on time.  This brings peace of mind to our Clients’ families.  He has two grown children and a granddaughter who live out of state.  “D.J.” is the son of our late co-founder, Don Wells, and enjoys golf and other sports when he gets a little time off.  He lives in downtown Staunton and takes pleasure in the activities of the area and being able to walk to so many places...but, he has rediscovered the motorcycle joys of his youth and may not be walking as much this summer!  “D.J.” also safely delivered dozens of our CAREGivers to their Clients during the numerous winter snow storms the last few years.

Donna Mattejat

Donna Mattejat - Human Resources Manager

Donna started as a CAREGiver in 2002 and then quickly moved through several office support and human resources positions.  Now, with our local personalized care team surpassing 200 CAREGivers and office staff, she has had an important role in interviewing and hiring almost everyone.  She graduated with a B.S. in Poultry Science from Virginia Tech…but, she’s no chicken when it comes to enforcing our strict policies regarding employee training & performance, drug screening, and criminal background checks.  Donna was previously a dispatcher in the sheriff’s office and can be found riding motorcycles in the summer with her husband, Allen.  Thankfully, her beloved kitties get to wait at home.
Lois Bossman

Lois Bossman - Human Resources Assistant

Lois brought her strong interpersonal skills to us in 2005 when she started as an administrative assistant.  Her previous experience as a conference coordinator and job coach also helped hone her organizational talents.  In her current human resources role Lois is responsible for most of our first line screening interviews of potential CAREGIvers.   “Ms. Picky”, as she is affectionately known, is also the office mom and plant & flower queen.  Her daughter recently married and left home so Lois’ empty nest energies are our gain!  She and her husband reside in Staunton and enjoy bird watching, walking and hiking, weekend getaways, and sewing.  Lois also takes charity work with her church to heart and travels out west to help children on Indian reservations.

Sharon Betlej

Sharon Betlej - Client Care Coordinator

Sharon joined us as a CAREGiver in 2006 and has been given increasing responsibility as our On Call Coordinator in 2008 and now her special role in Client Care starting in 2009.  She was a Physician Office Manager and Certified Medical Assistant for 20 years in several doctors’ offices in the area.  She and her husband, Bill, have sent their two daughters off to college and beyond from their Augusta County home.  Sharon’s caring energies and medical knowledge are happily utilized as she talks to our many new and ongoing Clients to ensure that their needs and expectations are being met!  She is a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants and enjoys reading, embroidery, movies and travel.

Doris Brown

Doris Brown - Quality Assurance Coordinator

Since joining us in 2002, Doris has been the “go to” person serving many roles in office support, CAREGiver scheduling and communications, and Client satisfaction.  After spending 30 years working in a military school environment she is committed to following procedures and ensuring that things are done the RIGHT WAY!  Doris regularly visits our Clients to make sure we are “delighting” them with our services.  She enjoys time with her son, Chris, and his family…wife-Nikki and the grandsons, Tristan and Noah.  Doris particularly appreciates the beauty of nature and loves to spend time in the mountains on Skyline Drive or in her gardens, and often escapes to the beach.  Her Waynesboro home is filled with lucky stray cats that have wiggled their way into her loving life.
Jeanne Russell

Jeanne Russell - Director of Marketing and Community Relations

Jeanne joined us in the fall of 2008 and works to ensure doctors, hospitals, senior living communities, social workers, civic and church groups and other community members understand the helpful services we provide for seniors and their families.  Her more than 20 year background as a healthcare executive in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industries has helped us in building strong and trusting relationships within our community.  She serves on many local Boards and Committees including the Augusta Health Foundation, Rockbridge Area Hospice, Greater Augusta Coalition Against Adult Abuse, Waynesboro Senior Advocacy Commission, Harrisonburg ElderAlliance, Rotary Club of Staunton & Volunteer Council of the United Way of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County.  She and her husband, Tony, live and play with a gazillion animals on their horse farm in southern Augusta County.
Henley Gabeau

Henley Gabeau - Community Service Representative

Henley came to us in the spring of 2010 to pursue an encore career after retiring a few years ago as the executive director of a national non-profit organization in Alexandria, Virginia.  She has a great connection with people and loves seeing their faces light up when they realize she’s not selling anything and simply wants to educate them about our caring services.  She has two grown daughters that live out of state and is known to spoil the animals at her Middlebrook farm.  Henley, an inveterate volunteer and club member, is active in Tuesday Club of Augusta County, Middlebrook Fire Department, Middlebrook Ruritan Club, and Valley Conservation Council to name a few.  When not in a meeting…she likes to exercise, read, cook, and ride her champion Saddlebred mare, Magnolia Morning.
Elizabeth Estep

Elizabeth Estep - Community Service Representative

Elizabeth brought her enthusiastic interpersonal skills and background in human resources and job coaching to us in the fall of 2010.  Her busy life as a wife, mother, and professional enables her to relate well to adult children who are struggling to find the balance in their lives between their own family and also caring for aging parents or grandparents.   Elizabeth lives in Mt. Jackson with her husband, Matt, and their four young sons, twins Branson & Garrett, Evan & Luke.   She is active in her church as a Council Member and is also on the PTO Executive Board as well as the Generals Youth Football Board.  Elizabeth and her gang enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, canoeing, hiking and football.   She has also been extremely successful in the “put the seat down” training in her masculine household!
Linda Eutsler, RN

Linda Eutsler, RN - Nurse Manager

Linda brought her wealth of nursing background and skills to us at the beginning of 2009.  In the early days of her career she worked on a surgical floor at Kings Daughters’ Hospital and later at Augusta Medical Center.  During her 30 year tenure at Western State Hospital she specialized in psychiatric nursing and was also an educator and manager.   Linda’s classes in Personal Care for our CAREGivers are an important part of their training.  She also visits our Clients to clinically assess their needs and ensure that their care plans are safe, accurate, and up-to-date.  She and her husband, Eddie, enjoy the beautiful mountain views from their Augusta County home.  Linda is creative and enjoys many crafts.  She is very active in her church and also has musical talents involving singing and playing the accordion and autoharp.
Suzanne Meeks

Suzanne Meeks - Training Instructor

Suzanne joined us as a CAREGiver in early 2007 after a 37 year career as a teacher and supervisor in the Staunton City Schools.  Her teaching talents were soon put to good use in the Alzheimer’s Care and Home Maker training programs for our CAREGivers.  Having cared for both her mother-in-law and late husband who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, she understands the heartache that many of our Clients’ families are experiencing.  Suzanne is an avid community volunteer and is active in her church, the Salvation Army, our Be A Santa To A Senior program, and is also on the planning committee and our team captain for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Suzanne is now married to Donnie…they live in Fishersville and enjoy their happy times with his kids and grandkids.  She likes to travel the northern part of the globe, and is into collecting rocks & minerals and watching birds & whales.

Jessica Martin

Jessia Martin - On-Call Coordinator

Jessica started with us in June of 2006 and we are happy to share her talents with Augusta Health’s Cancer Center where she also works part-time.  She is behind the scenes so you rarely get to see that great smile, but, Jessica is the friendly voice that generally answers the phone when the main office is closed.  We serve our Clients 24 hours a day – 7 days a week, and so we ALWAYS answer the phone…there is no recording or answering service!  Jessica and her husband, Rob, live in Stuarts Draft with their young children, Easton and Gracie.  They love spending family time together and are also active in their church.  Jessica is a great cook and baker, too!
