About Les and Roberta Farnum, owners of Home Instead Charlotte

Les Farnum is co-owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Charlotte, North Carolina. Les also serves on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Charlotte, the Better Business Bureau Consumer Foundation, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Senior Center. Les is on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina chapter of the National Private Duty Association. He was the former chair person of the Aging Resource Network, and currently serves on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Aging Coalition.

In 2009 Les received the Healthcare Hero award from the Mecklenburg Times.

Prior to his involvement in the senior community, Mr. Farnum owned and managed a garment manufacturing facility for 30 years in Athens, TN.

Roberta Farnum is co-owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Charlotte. Roberta is a Certified Senior Advisor. Prior to her work with seniors, Roberta was a management consultant in the area of organizational development. She worked with many Fortune 500 companies including Motorola, GE Capital, Coors, Rockwell International and United Technologies. Roberta has an MBA from the University of Tennessee.

In 2010 Roberta was named one of the 50 Most Influential Women by The Mecklenburg Times, Woman Business Owner of the Year by the National Organization of Women Business Owners, Charlotte Chapter in 2008 and Enterprising Woman of the Year by Enterprising Woman magazine in 2005. She was also named as one of the top 25 women in business by the Charlotte Business Journal and the National Association of Women Business Owner's Rising Star in 2004.

Together Les and Roberta started the North Carolina chapter of the National Private Duty Association which helps guide best practices in the home care industry. In addition, they have led Home Instead Senior Care in Mecklenburg County to a ranking in the top 10% of over 600 franchises in the U.S. Local leadership of their county-wide Santa to a Senior program has resulted in the distribution of 20,000 gifts to more than 7,000 isolated and financially challenged seniors.
