We are also involved in helping to develop and change legislation regarding the safety of our seniors. Since not all home care companies carry insurance on their caregivers (however they do carry insurance on their office staff), we believe it should be mandatory for these companies to do so. When a company states they do carry insaurance on all their employees...please ask...who they define as an employee. We have found that registry home care companies will define their office staff as employees and not include the actual caregiver as an employee, because they are contracted through the company. At the very least, we believe home care companies that do not carry liability/bonding insurance or workman's compensation insurance on their caregivers should be mandated to make the consumer aware of their liability.
