How Home Instead Senior Care Began in Orlando
Our office has been providing service here in Central Florida to Orange and Osceola County since 1996. My brother James and I (Owners) purchase the existing Home Instead Senior Care franchise in 2003.
We want to share this information with you so you get a better idea of who we are and where we have been. We understand the very important decision you will be making. The decision about who is going to care for your loved one is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.
James and I (Debra) were born and raised in Syracuse, NY. We grew up very close to our grandparents. We are part of a small Italian family that gathered every Sunday for dinner at my grandparent’s home. Gosh, I miss the homemade pasta and sauce days! I never knew one day I would feel this way, because back then, I had to help make the homemade pasta and sauce! Besides cooking and eating together, we traveled together (4 adults and 3 children in one car…and I miss that too!), gardened together, shared every holiday together, and well, you get the idea, we were always together. This is the reason why we both gravitated towards the Senior Care Industry.
We both went to state school only 45 minutes from home. James went to SUNY Oswego and graduated a Business major and I went to SUNY Cortland and graduated a Health Care Services major. At this point we all thought James and I would venture out and go our separate ways. But that’s not what exactly happened. We both found ourselves headed in the same direction. We both attended D’Youville College, a small catholic college located in upstate NY. This college dedicated its entire curriculum to the healthcare industry. We both received our Master’s Degrees in Long Term Care Administration.
After graduating we both landed on our feet in North Carolina and began working as Nursing Home Administrators. We worked for over 5 years in the nursing home industry. Our hands on experience from being administrators of a facility have been invaluable.
Due to our past experience, we strive to do everything we can to keep our seniors living safe and independently in their homes. Doing everything we can, to us, means taking every precaution possible to make sure our CAREGivers are people our clients will feel safe with. Doing everything we can, to us, means being a resource to our clients; making sure our client’s needs are met outside the scope of our services. Doing everything we can, to us, means being available to our clients and their families for answers, support, guidance, education and reassurance.
Once we found out my parents were moving to Orlando Fl to retire, we were not far behind them. James began looking at positions in the nursing home industry and stumbled upon Home Instead Senior Care. After a lot of research, he began to realize what a great organization Home Instead Senior Care was (and still is). Once he made-up his mind and decided he wanted to be a part of the Home Instead Senior Care franchise family, he approached me about being co-owners.
For us, and our clients, that’s when Home Instead Senior Care began in Orlando. Not a day goes by when I don’t think to myself, and frequently say out loud, “thank goodness you chose Home Instead Senior Care as our franchise, because none of the others compare.”
