Home Instead Senior Care
Columbia

I want to thank you so much for your attention to detail and let you know how very much we appreciate the flexibility of your staff. Every caregiver you have sent our way has been especially wonderful, professional and most of all caring. We find the caregivers easy to work with and enjoy their company as much as my mom does.

Our team starts with our CAREGivers. We are proud of our CAREGivers

Our CAREGivers are what Home Instead Senior Care is all about. After careful screening, extensive background checks, and in-depth training, only the best make it to be a Home Instead Senior Care CAREGiver. Our CAREGivers possess a heartfelt desire to help and work with seniors, to make their lives as rich and rewarding as possible. This is one of the many reasons why you will find them to be so wonderful. Learn more about our passion for making a difference in the lives of seniors by calling our friendly staff at (803) 736-4242.

When you're ready for help, our caring staff is on call to quickly answer your questions and accommodate your needs. Whether the need be large or small, Home Instead Senior Care is ready when you are.

When you call, you will speak with either Sue, Katie, Barbara, Susan or Rene.

Rene Kilburn, Owner

Rene is uniquely qualified to ensure that Home Instead Senior Care is your trusted source and first choice when it comes to caring for you and your loved ones. Rene was employed by Palmetto Health Richland Hospital for over eighteen years where she was the Vice President of Operations. She was responsible for over 1,400 employees, 40 managers, and 14 directors.

She became intrigued with Home Instead Senior Care after a personal experience with her own family revealed "gaps" in the healthcare system.  It took 3 years of research and soul searching, but Rene finally decided to become the proud owner of the Home Instead Senior Care in Columbia.  The most significant factor in that decision was the "selectivity" of the Home Instead Corporate team.  Rene found that they are as selective about their owners as they are about their CAREGivers.  That appealed to Rene's belief that the best way to lead is by example.  She is passionate about "Living Home Instead" and finds that excellent people naturally gravitate towards excellent companies.

Rene holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Bachelor of Science from the Medical College of Georgia. She is a registered Respiratory Therapist. Rene is thrilled to be able to help seniors lead happy and fulfilling lives.

Sue Cadden, Client Care Coordinator

Sue's experiences with her own family enable her to quickly relate to the issues facing Home Instead Senior Care clients. When you talk to her, you will benefit from her compassion and practical outlook on life.

Sue's 20 years of experience in adminstration and sales, along with a compansionate nature combine to make her an outstanding ambassador for Home Instead Senior Care.  She is quick to jump in and solve problems - making her someone you can really count on.

Sue is our specialist when family members first make contact with Home Instead Senior Care.  She has a reputation for her warmth and compassion.  She is very knowledgeable about the benefits our clients recieve when they are with a Home Instead CAREGiver. We value her leadership in making sure things are RIGHT!

Barbara Verzyl, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator

Barbara's background in nursing ensures that our CAREGivers receive topnotch training.  In addition to her experience in healthcare, Barbara ran a respite program, where she was responsible for hiring, training and managing a caring staff. She also has hands on experinece in
working with the fragile elderly including individuals with Dementia and Alzheimer's.

But before the training of the Home Instead CAREGivers ever begins,  Barbara performs careful interviews, screening, and background checks so that only the most qualified candidates make it to the Home Instead Senior Care CAREGiver training program. The bottom line is, Barbara implements a selection and training program that is second to none. You can rest assured, when a CAREGiver graduates from Barbara's class, she/he is ready to serve the needs of you and your family.

Barbara knows that when her CAREGiver comes to your house, she/he will be the kind of person you can depend on, a person that will put your mind at ease, and exceed your expectations. The training does not end once the CAREGiver starts working though. Through careful follow-up and continued discussions, she ensures that CAREGivers continue to meet and exceed her high standards.

Prior to moving into the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator role, Barbara served as an outstanding CAREGiver for Home Instead Senior Care.   This gives her unique insight into the required traits of our Home Instead CAREGivers.

Katie Galough, LMSW, Staffing Coordinator

Katie joined Home Instead Senior Care in the fall of 2011 after completing her Master of Social Work degree.  She started as a CAREGiver, but quickly moved onto the Care Support Team as a valued member of the management staff.

Katie is known for her listening skils and caring personality - traits that make her well sutied for her current position.  She has keen insight into the needs of our clients, and is very good at matching CAREGiver strengths with client needs.  Her background in Social Work and Counseling enables her to assist families in designing the right schedule to address the issues that aging loved ones may face.

Katie has gained a reputation with our clients and families for her positive, upbeat tone.  She always leaves them with a smile.
Katie currently holds a South Carolina Master Level License in Social Work.

Susan Ardrey, Community Service Representative

Susan joined Home Instead Senior Care in March of 2012 because she felt this was her "dream job."  After working for the Department of Social Services, she knew that she had a passion for working with seniors and wanted to work where she could make a difference.  She prides herself on her principled upbringing and feels that the Home Instead environment fits well with her family values.

Susan spends time in the community bringing all of the Home Instead educational resources to others who work with seniors.  She visits regularly with the Home Instead clients to check on their needs and make sure that their plan is consistent with their situation.  She coordinates her observations and feedback carefully with the Care Support Team so that our clients get the full support of not only our CAREGivers, but also the team behind the CAREGivers.

You can count on Susan to keep you organized!
