At Home Instead Senior Care of the Northern Shenandoah Valley, we take pride in the commitment, compassion, and integrity of our CAREGivers.  With approximately 200 CAREGivers who live all over our territory, you can be confident that we have a CAREGiver who will be a good match for you or your loved one.

Our CAREGivers come from all walks of life.  Their age ranges from 19 to 91 years old.  They are companions, home helpers, and personal care aides for our clients.  Most of our CAREGivers have families of their own - they are parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.  Among the ranks of our CAREGivers are nurses, accountants, teachers, administrators, college students, homemakers, and professional housekeepers.  They have unique hobbies and talents that are often of interest and benefit to our clients.

Despite these varied backgrounds, all of our CAREGivers have one very important thing in common: a genuine desire to serve seniors in our community which stems from personal experience caring for a loved one before their arrival at Home Instead Senior Care.

Additionally, each one of our CAREGivers passed a rigorous screening process prior to joining our company.  This included a criminal background check, a drug test, a tuberculosis (TB) test, thorough character reference verification, and the "my grandma" test.  In evaluating candidates, we ask ourselves if we would feel comfortable sending a potential CAREGiver to our own grandmother's home for service.  We consider such an extensive screening process to be imperative in our business, in light of the trust that clients and families place in us.

After hire, our CAREGivers complete a detailed training curriculum that prepares them to handle many of the issues that arise in the course of providing care to our clients.  Following initial orientation, CAREGivers complete basic training, advanced training, safety training, and activity training.  Many of our CAREGivers proceed to complete our in-house course on personal care, or they enroll in our Alzheimer's training program.  As a matter of routine, our nurse develops in-service opportunities throughout the year to further strengthen the capabilities of CAREGiving staff.

Our CAREGivers often perform exceptional acts of compassionate care on behalf of our clients.  For this reason, the Northern Shenandoah Valley Office of Home Instead Senior Care established the exclusive Hand and Heart Award in January of 2009.
