Home Instead Senior Care's "Be A Santa To A Senior"™ Program

In 2001 the Athens office implemented the “Be A Santa To A Senior” Program within the Northeast Georgia community. What better way to say thank you to all the seniors who have contributed so much to our community already than by sharing the Holiday cheer with them? The “Be A Santa To A Senior” Program helps those seniors who wouldn’t be able to afford to celebrate the holiday season or wouldn’t have anyone to share the happiness with, so we help them receive a little extra cheer to brighten their season.

In 2006 we delivered 57 gifts and by 2009 we grew to deliver over 700 gifts. In 2010 we delivered over 550 presents.  With the repeated support of Athens businesses like The Athens Community Council On Aging, The University of Georgia’s Gerontology Department, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Hodgson’s Pharmacy, Georgia Square Mall, the numerous community volunteers and so many more, including our devoted staff of CAREGivers, made this program even more successful than we ever imagined. Without their support, dedication and belief in our mission, success wouldn’t have been possible.

We look forward to continuing this program in the Athens Community for many years to come. If you would like to contribute to our “Be A Santa To A Senior” Program, whether with a monetary donation, a special gift or volunteering your time, please contact us at (706) 613-2224.

Athens Community Council on Aging

“To Whom It May Concern – We would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to the Home Instead Corporation and the Athens area Home Instead office for their 2005 “Be A Santa To A Senior” Program. We were contacted earlier in the year by your Athens office requesting the names and gender of approximately 400 area senior citizens. We quickly learned about the “Be A Santa To A Senior” program and were eager to provide them with the names of clients who would benefit.
Our non-profit agency services a 13-county area in the Northeast Georgia Region. We provide many services to area seniors including Meals on Wheels, transportation, volunteer opportunities, Senior Citizens Center, Adult Day Center and much more. Many of our agency’s clients are low-income, homebound senior citizens who we knew would see the 2005 holiday season come and go without family or gifts. Because of this we were very excited when this opportunity was presented.
By Christmas your local agency was able to secure, wrap and distribute over 1,500 gifts to 400 residents in our service area. The response from our clients was overwhelming. So many seniors were touched by the generosity of this program. A special thank you to your Athens staff for their time and dedication to the “Be A Santa To a Senior” Program. They were wonderful to work with. We hope we can see this program again in 2006 and help Home Instead implement it in our community.
We thank you again for your generous time and donation to our community. Valuable support like yours is what keeps our senior community strong. Thank you and Happy New Year!"

Sincerely,
Sarah McKinney

“Dear Robert Clark and Joe Ward – We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation for the Home Instead Be A Santa To A Senior Program. Your company’s dedication to the community through this holiday program is an asset to the elder community in our area.
For the second year in a row, Eve and I have both helped your staff get this program out to the area. I cannot begin to tell you how hard your staff has worked. Tanya Woods, Alicia Shelton and Dana James have worked tirelessly this holiday season and year to ensure a successful program on the part of Home Instead. Their commitment and dedication to this effort shines through in their professionalism and attitude. It has been a pleasure to get to know these ladies and we have formed not only a working relationship, but a friendship that I know will transition into our work.
Please know how much the Athens Community Council on Aging and its participants appreciate what you have done for the community. Your staff is to be commended for the way they represent your organization. They embody the “caregiver” that I know you hope to employ. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the staff at the Athens Community Council on Aging."

Sincerely,
Sarah McKinney

Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk

We believe that any cause to help seniors live a better life is definitely worth taking an interest in, which is why the Athens office has participated in the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual Memory Walk since 2007.  We have sponsored the event and walked to show our support in the hopes of finding a cure to Alzheimer’s disease.

“Dear Mr. Ward – On behalf of the Athens Regional Foundation, the University of Georgia Gym Dogs, and Athens Regional Medical Center, please accept our sincere appreciation for the gift from Home Instead Senior Care of $1,000.00 for the “Think Pink Meet” Champions Against Cancer Campaign. One hundred percent of your money will be used for the Athens Regional Breast Health Center.

Your donation will help further the early diagnosis, effective treatment, and unparalleled support services for all patients and their families.

Golf Fore "The Girls" Tournament - The Georgia Club Ladies Golf Association

"Dear Golf Fore "The Girls" Supporter" – On behalf of The Georgia Club Ladies Golf Association and our beneficiary, Athens Regional Foundation, we want to thank you for your support of the September 2th Golf Fore "The Girls" Tournament.

Once again we had a record amount of golfers participate. 140 registered and a dozen volunteers helped us achieve our fundraising goal of $8,000 donated to the Athens Regional Foundation. We asked the Foundation to direct the money to the Athens Regional Breast Health Center, making mammograms available to Northeast Georgia women who may need financial assistance or who do not have insurance. Money was also given to the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support and the Griffin-DuBose Healing Lodge where cancer patients, their families and friends may benefit from programs and services provided free of charge.

This is our 4th year of sponsoring a Breast Health Awareness Golf Tournament, the second where we keep our fundraising dollars for the good of the local community. These funds will go to raise awareness, support, educate and heal people we all know right here at home.

We are grateful to you for recognizing this important cause and once again we appreciate your support. The LGA has just announced the date for next year's tournament, September 25, 2012. We look forward to your participation and again are much obliged for your generosity."

Kind regards,
Tournament Chairperson and Committee

Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation

"Dear Friends – Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation gratefully acknowledges your donation of $100.00 in memory of Doris A. Your thoughtful gift helped pay a mortgage, rent, provide electric or fuel to keep a family comfortable. Thousands of needy hospice patients and their families throughout the United States received a meal or the kindness of human touch thanks to your generosity.

Lost wages, the cost of care, and the emotional toll can be devastating during a serious illness. Together, we can make certain that seriously ill patients and their loved ones know that someone truly cares about them and there is help in their most difficult hour. Your gift of hope and help will last a lifetime in the hearts of hospice patients and their families.

The family will receive acknowledgement of your thoughtfulness. Thank you again for your generosity!"
