Enhancing the Lives of Seniors in San Francisco

Home Instead Is holistically concerned about the lives of seniors. With this is mind, we seek partnerships with other San Francisco organizations and professionals that strive for the well-being of elders in the Bay Area.

Aligning with The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation

As part of a recent $10,000 grant from The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation, San Francisco Senior Center will support its Homecoming Transitional Care Program (HTCP). Each year, the HTCP provides services to more than 200 low-income, isolated seniors and people with disabilities who need hospital-to-home transitional care that includes case management, medical escorts, and in-home personal assistance.  The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation's mission is very similar to San Francisco Senior Center, as both help enhance the lives of older adults.

Meals on Wheels of San Francisco, Inc. also received a $10,000 grant from The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation and applied it toward grant funding for its Emergency Food Starts program.

These nonprofits are two of nine organizations awarded grant funding from The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation in 2011.

Collaborating with Local Businesses

During the holiday season, Home Instead partners with local businesses, such as Walgreens, to help provide gifts to hundreds of disadvantaged elderly men and women in San Francisco. Our yearly participation in the Be a Santa to a Senior program aligns with Home Instead’s broader effort to spread holiday cheer to lonely or financially challenged seniors. Home Instead has helped provide 1.2 million gifts to more than 700,000 elderly individuals throughout North America since introducing the Be a Santa to a Senior program six years ago.

Sponsoring San Francisco Events and Lectures

Home Instead is a national sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association's Memory Walk events across the country, and Home Instead San Francisco supports the San Francisco three-mile walk.

Home Instead San Francisco also believes in advancing the causes of seniors and supports a variety of educational and fund-raising events and lectures across the Bay Area including those hosted by the Zen Hospice Project, Curry Senior Center, Institute on Aging, UC Berkeley Resource Center on Aging, Patient Assistance Foundation and San Francisco Village.

"Without the generosity of donors like you, we could not continue to provide our comprehensive range of health, nutrition, and social services. As we grow and focus more resources on community outreach, it is encouraging that we have your support."

-- Scott Plymale, LCSW, Ph.D., Executive Director, Patient Assistance Foundation

"Your generosity will help us to provide programs and services to Bay Area seniors, including a 24-hour telephone crisis line, one-on-one and group counseling and telephone outreach to older adults dealing with issues of suicide, depression, abuse and grief."

-- Patrick Arbore, Ed.D., Founder and Director, Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention and Grief Related Services (Institute on Aging)

"Your gift directly supports all aspects of our programming, including the Volunteer Caregiver Program, the Education Center, the Grief Support Services, and our beloved Guest House, enabling Zen Hospice Project to share kindness with an entire community."

-- Carlyle Coash, Acting Executive Director, Zen Hospice Project
