When and how do you know that it is time to look for a home care service?
Most people prefer to live in their own homes where everything is familiar and safe. As we age and loose our mobility, eye sight, hearing and sometimes memory, our homes become our haven of security. Remaining independent is the highest priority for most seniors. Home care is usually needed when isolation leading to malnutrition and depression, or mismanagement of the many medications prescribed, cause health and safety issues to arise.
How do we know how much time is needed with the home care company?
Most people can benefit from the services provided by a home care company with as little as two hours three times a week. During that time, the CAREGiver can assist in bathing, do some laundry and housekeeping, and prepare meals that can be warmed up later. Many people use our services to take the client to doctor appointments, grocery shopping or even to get their hair done. Some require more assistance after surgery or illness. An RN or Client Care Coordinator would meet with the client and family to prepare a care plan and decide what is needed. This is done without cost to the client.
How does Home Instead Senior Care choose their CAREGivers and assign them to a client?
We are very strict in our hiring guidelines. All applicants are screened through background checks, reference checks and two interviews. We look for people who have a yearning to be of service, love the elderly, have experience and skill and can demonstrate to us good judgment, responsibility and professionalism. Once hired we match a CAREGiver with a client based on the skill level required for the job, the preferences of the client and the interests of both client and CAREGiver. The client always has the last word about the CAREGiver we send.
Are your employees bonded and insured?
Yes, our CAREGivers are bonded and insured for liability. They are also covered under Worker's Compensation to cover any medical bills incurred from injuries on the job. Therefore the client has no liability.
Do you schedule the same CAREGiver for each visit?
We set a high priority on continuity. Whenever possible the same CAREGiver will be assigned for all shifts. If a CAREGiver is sick we will notify you immediately and seek a replacement that will meet the same criteria needed for this client.
If I have a complaint or problem who do I talk to?
All office personnel are trained to deal with most situations. You also may speak directly with Ali and Kelly, our owners, as they are very involved in the day to day operation of the business and like to know each client personally.
Are your services available for the elderly in nursing homes and assisted living facilities?
A growing number of our clients reside in a setting other than their own home. Assisted living facilities, adult foster care homes, nursing homes, and even hospitals are all locations within which Home Instead Senior Care is happy to provide services.
Do I need to sign a contract?
We do have a very flexible "Service Agreement" which may be cancelled at any time with 24 hour notice.
Can I adjust a schedule once it's started?
We pride ourselves on our flexibility. We are here to accommodate your needs. Therefore we can add, deduct, or change the service hours to meet your changing needs.
Does any kind of insurance pay for these services?
There are several types of long term care policies that will cover our services. You will be responsible for payment, however, we will assist you in determining your benefits and sending the required documentation to the insurance company so that you can get reimbursed.
How are CAREGivers selected?
First, the Home Instead Senior Care franchise network looks for people who have a passion for working with seniors to help them live independently. Then each potential CAREGiver must successfully complete a thorough personal and professional reference and criminal background check. Each CAREGiver is also bonded and insured.
How do you train your CAREGivers?
Home Instead CAREGivers participate in an exclusive senior care training program, which covers topics such as communicating with seniors, planning activities, recognizing illnesses, safety training and other issues and typical situations encountered in providing elder care.  CAREGivers also benefit from regular team meetings and on-going training opportunities to enhance their skills.
What happens if my CAREGiver gets sick?
Home Instead Senior Care employs a CAREGiver team approach, so if one CAREGiver is ill, we make every effort to make another team member available to meet your home care needs.
Do you provide senior services to those in nursing homes or assisted living facilities?
Yes, Home Instead CAREGivers provide eldercare and companionship to seniors who may require additional attention and/or personalized long term care and reside in assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Who pays the CAREGiver, Home Instead Senior Care or me?
Your CAREGiver is employed by this local, independently owned and operated franchise, which means we handle all the billing, payroll, taxes, insurance and administrative responsibilities for your CAREGiver.

No, but CAREGivers can provide light housekeeping, laundry and ironing.
