"When I first met with my mom's CAREGiver, before she began caring for mom, she assured me that my mother was without a doubt in good hands. Her experience, she explained, guaranteed that she would do well in meeting my mother's needs whatever they may be. I knew that my mother who suffers from dementia would be a challenge because of her strong resistance to accepting care. Therefore, I was not feeling confident that we would have success with a CAREGiver. But the CAREGiver's assurance proven to be accurate, as I have come to see, well founded. I cannot imagine someone doing a better job of not only caring for my mother, but also putting up with the negativity that she often, unfortunately, exudes.
Our CAREGiver has truly been a life-saver for me these past couple of months. After experiencing a fall myself, which necessitated surgery and has kept me compromised in my ability to care for my mother, I have been so grateful to have her to assist us both. She has not only filled in for me, helping even more with meeting mother's needs, but has "been there" repeatedly for me personally. She is always attentive to ways she can be of any assistance and does not hesitate to offer her help whenever possible. It is not only the physical, hands-on care that has made the difference, but she is cheerful, positive, can/will-do attitude has been extremely supportive throughtout this very difficult recovery.
I look forward to the time she comes to provide care and I truly miss her on the days she is not scheduled. She is a pleasure to work withand brightens the day of our entire family. While my mother has no idea how fortunate she is to have her, being unable to recognize her priceless qualities and great skill at caregiving, it is infinitely clear to me. She is reliable and always on time. She jumps in immediately to doing what needs to be done, allowing me to focus efforts elsewhere. She puts my mothers needs first, which is extremely reassuring. I never have to think twice if things will be alright while I am away.
What I appreciate most about our CAREGiver is that she shows great respect for the person that my mother is and treats her with the utmost kindness and dignity. Her level of sensitivity to every aspect of my mother's condition and daily state of being feels amazing. it is clear that she is invested in helping out to the very best of her abilities. She is genuinely interested in doing not just a good job but an outstanding one. She is open to input from me and is constantly analyzing our situation, considering what can be done to make a difference.
