“My husband suffered a major stroke, and I realized that he would need a substantial amount of care if he was going to live at home after rehabilitation. I contacted Home Instead Senior Care about hiring additional help for him, and the staff was able to find a suitable and reliable caregiver who greatly helped us accommodate my husband. Home Instead Senior Care consistently provided competent caregivers who made my husband's wish of living at home a reality.
Thank you again for all of your assistance.”

Our CAREGivers’ exceptional dedication, skills, and compassion are vital to creating lasting relationships with our clients across the South Peninsula.
To ensure we hire top candidates, our CAREGiver applicants go through a comprehensive interview process to determine their level of empathy, work background, senior-specific knowledge, previous training and established skill set. Prior to being hired as a Home Instead Senior Care employee, we also do thorough reference and background checks by conducting:
• Social Security number trace
• County criminal search
• National criminal database search
• Motor vehicle report
• Sex offender search
• Drug testing
• Finger prints via the California Department of Justice
Currently, there isn’t a California law requiring employers to do background checks on potential employees. Our CAREGivers even get ongoing tuberculosis tests which also aren’t required by law.
Additionally, by employing our CAREGivers, Home Instead Senior Care Senior Care adds a layer of financial protection with a personal approach for our clients. For instance:
• Home Instead Senior Care follows California regulations regarding wages, hours and working conditions of household occupations.
• We provide California Worker’s Compensation insurance to cover CAREGivers’ work-related injuries that may occur in your home.
• We equip our CAREGivers with unemployment insurance to safeguard clients from incurring back fees in case a CAREGiver files for unemployment.
• Home Instead Senior Care pays the employer portion of all federal, state and local taxes, plus we withhold and file all applicable paperwork and monies for the employee’s compensation taxes.
Additionally, our CAREGivers are bonded and insured for coverage related to any liability or theft in the unlikely case that anything may occur during caregiving.
Each new employee attends our CAREGiver training program that addresses issues such as communicating with seniors, caring for Alzheimer’s patients, planning activities, recognizing illnesses and depression, and safety training. Following completion of the CAREGiver training program, a CAREGiver is carefully paired with a client, taking into account that individual’s unique personality and specific care needs.
Caregiving as a career may encompass:
• Companionship
• Planning and preparing meals
• Light housekeeping
• Medication reminders
• Running errands
• Engaging in activities like games, memory books and light exercise
• And more
Caring for seniors is a labor of love that requires a special person with just the right touch. Professional caregiving; allows our CAREGivers to build on the skills they already have to develop a fulfilling, rewarding career helping seniors live rich, independent lives.
