Home Instead Senior Care Recognized As Best Company for Older Workers

Spring 2007

Home Instead Senior Care, the world's largest provider of non-medical home care and companionship for seniors, has received the "Outstanding Employer of Older Workers Award" from Experience Works, a national non-profit, community-based organization whose mission is to put the experience of older individuals to work.

The award was presented to company president Roger Baumgart during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., which was attended by the oldest workers in each state as well as the oldest worker in the nation. Home Instead Senior Care was the only for-profit business to be recognized by Experience Works in 2006 for providing outstanding employment opportunities for seniors. The presentation and press conference were part of Prime Time Awards Week, which Experience Works hosts each year to honor older workers and the companies who support them.

Home Instead Senior Care was recognized for modeling senior employment environments that recruit, train and retain older workers. About 90 percent of the company's 37,000 Caregivers are over the age of 50. "Locally, as well as nationally, we've found that older workers are the foundation of our business," said Debbie Seplow, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office in the Northwest Valley. "And many bring with them real-life, caregiving experience to their work with clients."

"Helping to take care of seniors requires skills such as patience, dedication and maturity - qualities that are most often found in older workers," Seplow said. "Our clients often relate well to other seniors, so we're always on the lookout for the mature worker. Our company is also a good fit for the senior workforce. Home Instead Caregivers benefit from flexible work hours and locations, thorough training is provided to all Caregivers both initially and on-going. As well as, Caregivers are bonded, insured, FBI fingerprinted and drug tested."

Sun City Caregiver Nancy H., who is 62 years young, is an example of one local Caregiver who has found a career serving area seniors. Nancy has been a Caregiver with Home Instead Senior Care for two year in Arizona and three years in Wisconsin. Nancy is a very caring person, always has a smile on her face, not afraid to ask questions, dependable and very knowledge in caring for seniors, which are only a few of her strengths. "Our seniors are so thankful when I assist them with daily household duties. They can't thank me enough. Helping seniors is such a rewarding job for me and there is such a need,"said Nancy H.
