How Home Instead Senior Care Began in Greater Worcester County and MetroWest
The Northborough Office of Home Instead opened their doors on March 1, 1997. This was the first Home Instead in New Engand and the 51st Franchise in North America. This office provides service coverage to Greater Worcester County.
A year later, in 1998, the Bender's opened a second office operating out of Natick. This office provides service coverage for the MetroWest area. Now with a staff of approximately 200 CAREGivers and having provided services for over 1,000 Clients, the Benders have remained in the forefront of Home Care in Massachusetts. They have worked with state representatives to both legislate and create quality standards for this industry.
Although Home Instead Senior Care is a "non-medical" agency, the Northborough owners came into this business with years of medical backgrounds. Bruce Bender is a physician and Laurie Bender a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Home Instead Senior Care Began from Personal Experience
Paul and Lori Hogan founded Home Instead, Inc. and began serving seniors in Omaha, Nebraska, as Home Instead Senior Care in 1994. It was Paul Hogan's own family experience caring for his grandmother that made him realize the need for non-medical home care and elder companionship services to help seniors live independently at home.
Fulfilling a Growing Need as Our Population Ages
In June 1995, the company began franchising. By 1998, Home Instead Senior Care had grown to 99 offices and was recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the 100 fastest growing franchise companies in the United States. In 2000, Home Instead Senior Care began international development with the opening of an international partner relationship in Osaka, Japan with Duskin Corporation.
