Our Commitment to the Omaha and Elkhorn Community
Our involvement in the Omaha community doesn't stop with our services. In 2008, Home Instead partnered with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to break ground on the Home Instead Center for Successful Aging, which, upon completion in 2010, will be the only geriatric center in the State of Nebraska. It will include a geriatric medicine clinic, geriatric psychiatry clinic, and community outreach and education facilities. The center was named for Home Instead Senior Care because co-founders Paul and Lori Hogan were its principle donors.

In addition to our work with UNMC, we partner with companies like Alegent Health for community activities such as Operation Medicine Cabinet, which is an event aimed at helping seniors dispose of expired or no longer used medications. Each year, we team up with our corporate office (including Home Instead Senior Care co-founders Paul and Lori Hogan) to participate in the Alzheimer's Association Annual Memory Walk. All of the proceeds from the event benefit the Midlands chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, which provides information and services for families and caregivers dealing with Alzheimer's disease.

There's also no denying that we like to have a little fun. Our annual Senior Scamp is an event where our clients, CAREGivers, and referral providers all come together for an outing in the Fall. This event, which re-emphasizes independent living, enables our entire network to bond over a festive activity, like carving pumpkins.

The largest community event we participate in is our annual Be a Santa to a Senior program, where we work with local non-profit organizations to identify low-income seniors who are isolated and may not receive gifts over the holiday season. We then work with local businesses to facilitate the purchase and distribution of gifts throughout our community. Be a Santa to a Senior is our way of spreading the community of Omaha's holiday cheer to those seniors who need it most.  For more information, visit the Be a Santa to a Senior website.
