Get in the mood for “ fun” with a classic film about the beach. All kinds of friends having fun, couples getting mixed up, and fill it out with some dancing, surfing, and even fight scenes. Such films can bring back memories of years gone by for those in senior care. Newbury Park, CA residents no doubt remember the first time they saw Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello having fun in the surf.

Well, that same fun can be reclaimed all these years later. We’ve got suggestions for some great flicks that deserve another look with your 24-hour caregiver or elderly companion. Newbury Park, CA, as it happens, has a great senior caregiver agency near me in Home Instead. Their licensed, trained, and bonded CAREGivers can provide the companionship and aid your loved one needs.

And if they haven’t seen these great flicks, well, invite them in to share a cultural experience! A new friend could be just one film away!

The first movie we’ll mention is the 1963 classic, Beach Party. This one started it all. Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, and their friends take their first turn along the beach, as a professor studies the behavior of this younger set. An unexpected crush, an outlaw biker gang, and some jealousy lead to hilarious situations and a satisfying ending. The “beach party” genre grew out of this unexpected hit. And if you’re the sort of person who needs senior care services near Newbury Park, CA you’ve probably seen this one before —  but it’s always fun to see it again!

The next film we’ll mention for your assisted living respite care viewing is Gidget Goes Hawaiian. Gidget, that irrepressible blond, was looking forward to spending two weeks with her beau while he was home from college. But her parents are forcing her to go to Hawaii for those two weeks. Once in Hawaii she comforts herself by peeling away another girl's boyfriend, only to be surprised when her own beau suddenly appears and finds he’s lost her (or so he thinks). To get back at Gidget, he starts stepping out with the new guy’s original gal… got it? Hilarity ensues, along with surfing, sand, and sun. Gidget and her guy finally get back together in that tropical paradise.

A third excellent standard is the Haley Mills classic, The Parent Trap. Mixed identity, long-lost siblings, and trickery abound as Haley Mills plays both of a set of identical twins whose parents divorced shortly after they were born. Each parent kept one of the girls, so neither knew they had a twin. But unbeknownst to their parents, they are reunited when they are randomly sent to the same camp. The twins overcome their initial tensions and conspire to get their parents back together. The filming and casting tricks used to have Haley Mills play two parallel roles in this film caused a sensation at the time — a feat easily accomplished in our days of CGI.

You probably have a long list of other favorite films, so don’t limit yourself to our suggestions! Enjoy some nostalgia, invite a friend, or make a new one — like a compassionate, trained, licensed, and bonded CAREGiver from Home Instead.
